This month sees the release of several new Warner Archive titles, here’s a rundown of some of these films that you will want to make a part of your permanent home video collection!

Around the World in 80 Days

Victorian gentleman Phileas Fogg (David Niven) made a pricey wager that he could circumnavigate the globe in record time…and, with valet Passepartout (Cantinflas), proceeded on a peril-fraught make-good. Michael Todd’s lavish production of the Jules Verne globe-trotting adventure classic, winner of five Academy Awards, co-stars Shirley MacLaine; the dozens of cameo appearances include Frank Sinatra, Marlene Dietrich, Ronald Colman, Buster Keaton, Charles Boyer.

Available on September 25th.

Friendly Persuasion

William Wyler’s sensitive adaptation of the best-selling Jessamyn West novel stars Gary Cooper as Jess Birdwell, the patriarch of an Indiana Quaker family staunchly opposed to violence. But the Birdwells find their faith and love put to the test when eldest son Josh (Anthony Perkins) feels he must join the army and fight in the Civil War in order to prove his manhood. Dorothy McGuire, Marjorie Main, Robert Middleton also star.

Available on September 25th.

The Swarm

Millions of vicious and venomous killer bees make their way through Central America and terrorize Texas towns. Can an eccentric entomologist (Michael Caine) and his team contain the threat before a beeline (sorry) to Houston is made? Disaster ensemble from Irwin Allen co-stars Katharine Ross, Richard Widmark, Henry Fonda, Richard Chamberlain, Olivia de Havilland, Fred MacMurray, Ben Johnson.

Available on September 25th.

Papillon

In this grand (and true) adventure story, Steve McQueen stars as French thief Henri “Papillon” Charrière, who is imprisoned in South America after a wrongful conviction for murder. After breaking free from captivity a number of times, he is sent to the “inescapable” confines of the penal colony on Devil’s Island–where he and a fellow convict (Dustin Hoffman) form a powerful bond devoted to loyalty, survival…and escape. With Anthony Zerbe, Victor Jory.

Now available.

Wine, Women and Horses

Bumming and betting his way through the Midwest, itinerant gambler Jim Turner (Barton MacLane) thought he was ready to settle down when he fell hard for lovely landlady Marjorie Mayhew (Peggy Bates). Will he listen to her entreaties to make an honest living, or will the lure of fast action prove to be too much? (What odds do you want to give?) Earnest adaptation of W.R. Burnett’s “Dark Hazard” also stars Ann Sheridan, Dick Purcell, Walter Cassel, Kenneth Harlan.
