Great Movie Scenes: “Robocop” Saves the Day

Paul Verhoeven’s Robocop is a film that is unique in that it works as a sci-fi adventure and a dark comedy. When it was released back in 1987 (can you believe this film is 30 years old?) , audiences weren’t prepared for the film’s dizzying storyline — in which good cop Alex Murphy (Peter Weller) is killed in the line of duty and subsequently reborn as a half-man, half-machine guardian who sent out to clean up the crime-ridden streets of a futuristic Detroit. The film ends in the most satisfying manner possible, with Robocop killing the bad guy (a scenery-chewing Ronny Cox) and reclaiming a small bit of his humanity. It’s a crowd pleaser to be sure, so for today’s Great Movie Scene feature I have included it above in its entirety. (Be warned though, it does contain some graphic violence not appropriate for all audiences).
