Ask MovieFanFare: Or, Do You Have That One With That Guy Who Was in That Movie That…?

ASK MOVIE FANFARE ARTIf you’ll divert your eyes for a moment over to the far right-hand column of this page, you’ll see a heading entitled “Popular Posts.” You’ll notice that the second-most responded-to article listed there is “Movies That Scared Me…When I Was Young,” our colleague Irv Slifkin’s tribute to the horror and sci-fi gems of his boyhood. Similarly, lots of you readers have shared some of your own terrifying film moments, and we appreciate that. Many have also written to us because, while they remember seeing a scary movie way back when, they no longer recall–or, in some cases, never knew–the name of the picture or its actors.

Now, we here at MovieFanFare are more than willing to assist fans in tracking down titles and stars…or, at the very least, to give it the old film school try. Over the years since Movies That Scared Me… first appeared, however, more and more folk have written in just for help in learning a movie’s title. What’s more, we’re sure that some of you may have a scene or a story from a comedy, romance, western or some other non-horror/sci-fi picture that’s been playing in your head and driving you crazy.

With that in mind, we’d like to re-introduce you to Ask MovieFanFare, and invite you to comment below with your questions. Tell us as much as you can about a film–key plot points, actors you’re certain or pretty certain were in it, whether it was black-and-white or color, and when you think it was made (within a decade or two, at least)–and we will try to research it and come up with the title. We can’t guarantee we’ll figure it out (and if you stump us, you don’t win dinner for two at Trader Vic’s like Johnny Carson used to give away on The Tonight Show), but we’ll do our best. If you prefer, you can write to us privately at askmff@moviefanfare.com

And for all of you knowledgeable readers out there, please feel free to contribute your own ideas if you see a comment and think you can help out one of your fellow film buffs.

…Oh, and by the way, our sincere thanks to Kevin Smith for the line of dialogue from Clerks which we used in the above headline.
