Six Pix presents a sextet of movie posters representing a particular actor/director/genre/theme. You pick the one you feel is visually the most artistic or best sums up the topic.
Tomorrow marks the Ides of March, a date which has lost much of its importance over the years, but certainly was significant for one Gaius Julius Caesar. According to the Ancient Roman historian Plutarch, it was the general-turned-ruler’s decision to ignore a soothsayer’s warning that day which culminated in his assassination on the steps of the Senate in 44 B.C.
Over 2,000 years after he was betrayed by his friends and allies, Julius Caesar has come to symbolize the might and glory that was Rome, a position that Hollywood helped cement in the public consciousness through his many cinematic portrayals. Here’s your chance to let us know which of these film and TV posters you think offers the best depiction of Caesar: the elder statesman of Claude Rains in Caesar and Cleopatra and Louis Calhern in Julius Caesar; the conquering hero as played by John Gavin in Spartacus and Ciarán Hinds in Rome; the romantic rival of Rex Harrison in Cleopatra; or the comedic ruler portrayed by Kenneth Williams in Carry on Cleo.
Which one do you think takes the laurels? Should we have included another film poster (and no, Little Caesar doesn’t count)? Tell us about it below!
