Welcome to 25 Days of Christmas!

Happy holidays! Today is December 1st, which means the countdown to Christmas is on. We know that this can be an incredibly stressful time of the year, but we want to help you relax by sharing fun seasonal posts from now through December 25th. Along with our usual content, we will be including special holiday-themed polls, Create-A-Captions, and guest posts, as well as articles from the MovieFanFare archives that will help you celebrate the most wonderful time of the year. Additionally, for the next few weeks we will be updating our 2019 MovieFanFare Holiday Gift Guide that will make your holiday shopping a snap.

To kick off 25 Days of Christmas, we are featuring the trailer for a contemporary seasonal classic: 1983’s A Christmas Story!

Based on short stories by and narrated by Jean Shepherd (who provides narration), this hilarious and enjoyable holiday yarn chronicles a young boy’s attempts at getting what he really wants for Christmas: a Red Ryder BB gun. In a Midwestern town in the 1940s, Ralphie (Peter Billingsley) finds appeals to his parents, a teacher, and Santa Claus for his most-desired gift are always met with the same response of “you’ll shoot your eye out.” Darren McGavin, Melinda Dillon also star; directed by Bob Clark (who also directed a much different type of holiday tale, Black Christmas, in 1974).

Since the film’s original unsuccessful theatrical release, the movie has become a cult phenomenon and seasonal favorite — spawning sequels and other merchandise. The warm nostalgia of A Christmas Story means that it offers up sweet memories of holidays and people long gone, but still in our hearts.
