R.I.P. “The Mod Squad” and “Twin Peaks” Star Peggy Lipton

Peggy Lipton, the actress who rose to fame for her portrayal as counterculture undercover cop Julie Barnes on the 1968-73 series The Mod Squad has died at the age of 72 following a battle with cancer.

A talented singer as well as actress, Lipton released an eponymous album in 1968 that was well-received and spawned the hit single “Stoney End.” (She’s seen above performing on The Andy Williams Show in 1968). Following The Mod Squad‘s end, she took a break from the public eye to raise Rashida Jones and Kidada Jones, her children from dher marriage to famed music producer Quincy Jones. She returned to television as part of David Lynch‘s 1990 masterpiece Twin Peaks (she reprised her role as waitress Norma Jennings in 2017’s Twin Peaks: The Return).

Throughout the remainder of her life, Lipton worked steadily in television (she had a recurring role on Alias and in film (A Dog’s Purpose), and is remembered as an actress whose talent and grace inspired fans across the glove.
