She was the original scream queen who played beauty to the titular beast in The Creature from the Black Lagoon, and, sadly, Julie Adams has died at the age of 92. Best known for her work in that Universal Monsters classic, Adams had a career in film and television that spanned over six decades — sharing the screen with co-stars ranging from James Stewart (in 1952’s Bend of the River) to Elvis Presley (the rompish Tickle Me).
The Iowa-born actress who is survived by two sons and four grandchildren was equally at ease on the small screen, appearing in everything from Perry Mason (playing his only convicted client!) to Murder, She Wrote to Lost. Here’s a look back at some of her most memorable appearances:
