Keeping a promise to his late father, jaded journalist Tom Langdon (Dermot Mulroney) takes a train from Washington, D.C., to Los Angeles with the intention of writing about a trip. During the four-day cross-country trek, Tom strikes up unexpected connections with the eclectic group of fellow travelers and is shocked to discover that his ex-girlfriend, Eleanor (Kimberly Williams-Paisley), is also onboard. Why, that’s Christmastime, of course, and that’s the lesson that an overworked single mom (Brooke Burns) learns in this charming Yule-themed romantic comedy, as her visiting uncle (Henry Winkler) brings along a handsome stranger (Warren Christie) who opens her eyes–and her heart–to the wonders of the season.
It seems that a good deed really didn’t go unpunished for struggling small-town single mom Christine Eisley (Bethany Joy Lenz), as her stopping to render medical aid to a stricken senior got her fired just in time for the holidays. To top it all off, she lost her precious family heirloom locket in the hubbub. Recent divorcée Nell Blakemore (Anne Heche) just wanted her kids’ first Christmas without their father to be special…and Cesar (Carlos Gomez) thought the Blakemore porch would be a safe place for the abandoned beagle puppy he found. Christmas is always a wonderful time of year at Holly Lodge, a quaint mountain inn owned by Sophie Bennett (Alison Sweeney).
