What’s the Best Song from The Rocky Horror Picture Show?

“It isn’t easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.” – Dr. Frank N. Furter (a scientist).

Originally released in 1975, The Rocky Horror Picture Show has had about as strange of a trajectory as any film possibly could. Based on the musical by Richard O’Brien (who played Riff Raff) the movie was released on August 14, 1975 and promptly died at the box office. It’s blend of glam rock, science fiction and horror tropes was ahead of its time for audiences, but those who preferred to live on the fringes of society embraced it wholeheartedly. It became a midnight movie sensation, with audiences heckling the film, throwing props and even acting it out in front of the screen. Nearly 50 years later and it continues to play theaters across the country, despite being available on home video since 1990. In fact, because it is the most popular cult film of all time, Rocky Horror long ago went mainstream itself, embraced by audiences who took its message of “don’t dream it, be it” to heart.

Plus, the flick is just incredibly entertaining and its cast — led by a pre-fame Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, Meat Loaf and a never-better Tim Curry — is perfect across the board.

All that said, The Rocky Horror Picture Show would be nothing without its songs. This week’s poll asks you to pick which tune from the film is your favorite. A tough choice, we release, but one we think you are more than up for the challenge to participate in.

This poll originally ran in 2018, we are reprinting it as we continue to remember Meat Loaf, who passed away last week.
