Bodybuilder. Actor. Pop culture icon. Politician. Philanthropist. Arnold Schwarzenegger has done it all.
The closest thing the entertainment industry — if not the world in general — has to a living, breathing superhero, Schwarzenegger has enchanted millions across the globe thanks to roles in contemporary classics like Conan the Barbarian, Commando, Predator, The Terminator franchise, and on and on and on. Much more than just an action star however, Schwarzenegger is equally skilled in comedy, as movies like Kindergarten Cop and Twins illustrate. He is truly a renaissance man.
Today marks Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 70th birthday, and we can think of no better way to celebrate him than by spending the day watching some of his masterpieces. (Although reading this message from longtime cinematic competitor Sylvester Stallone is another great way to pay tribute). We recommend that you find some time to do the same, as his extensive filmography has largely stood the test of time. For example, when was the last time you sat down and watched Total Recall? That flick still is amazingly entertaining, as are most of his efforts.
To further get you psyched up about Schwarzenegger’s 70th, here’s a supercut of explosions from his films that he posted to his official YouTube page:
If that isn’t a visual representation of the bombast Schwarzenegger brought to movies, we don’t know what is. Happy 70th, “Arnuld,” and many happy returns. There has never been another star quite like him. Let’s hope he’ll be back (sorry) for many years to come!
