More than just a rousing comic book adventure, Doctor Strange is the most visually striking superhero movie to date. A perfectly cast Benedict Cumberbatch stars as Stephen Strange, a talented neurosurgeon whose abilities are almost overshadowed by his arrogant nature. Following a devastating car accident in which his hands are rendered useless, he begins a spiritual and emotional journey of redemption — one that leads him to learn of the existence of Kamar-Taj, a mysterious place where he can allegedly be healed. After an exhausting search, Strange arrives at Kamar-Taj and becomes the student of the Ancient One (played with hypnotic aplomb by Tilda Swinton). Under the tutelage of his wise and secretive mentor, he begins to discover a literal infinite universe outside of himself full of magic known as the astral plane as he develops his sorcerer abilities. But Strange’s newfound talents are put to the test and his hero’s journey is jolted into overdrive when the Ancient One’s former student-turned-rebel acolyte Kaecilius (Mads Mikkelsen) sets in a motion a path that would destroy humanity as we know it and make mankind a slave to the cosmic evil known as Dormammu. With the assistance of his colleagues in magic Karl Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) and Wong (Benedict Wong), and his would-be girlfriend Dr. Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams), Strange embarks on a fearless mission to defeat Mikkelsen and Dormammu and embrace his destiny as the Sorcerer Supreme.
