reefer madness and others of its type and era

• Allen Hefner

Pink Flamongos???

• bubba sawyer

i honestly love more than one movie on this list. you should have more lists for this one.

• Movie Fan.

When I was in college I attended a local theatre to sit through "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" on many a Friday and Saturday night. My girlfriend and I never had the nerve to participate in the "floor show." I remember one Friday show was attended by Siskel and Ebert! They said they were familiar with the film and wanted to see how the audience behaved. Well, they found out!

• coffee

Dawn of the dead, remings me of the class mates I had in College during the 60's/ They walked and acted the same way, maybe they were on something, huh???

• Marty Weissman

I'm surprised not to see "Eraserhead" as one of your choices.

• uncle gibby

No list is complete without "El Topo" .
Alexandro Jodorowsky's 1971 "classic" still confounds today.
I have no problems with your list with the exception of "Myra
Breckenridge" which was just a horrible movie with NO redeeming qualities whatsoever.

• Joy

Hard to pick between Rocky Horror and Dawn of the Dead here. Both great classics as cult movies go.

• uncle gibby

These probably don't qualify as "classics" but they are definitely worth viewing are two 'Seventies" gems.
"Schlock" an early John Landis offering starring the "Schlocktropus" .
"Ginger" starring Cheri Caffaro which eventually led to a trilogy. (but none compared to the original!!!)
Weren't the Seventies just grand???

• Randy Dannenfelser

There are way too many. This list could have been sub-grouped by genre.

• Randy Dannenfelser

There are way too many films to have been listed here. This topic should have been sub-grouped by genre.

• Mark Townsend

YOU GOOFED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Night of the Living Dead should have been on the list!!!!!!
Dawn of the Dead???? Meh .......

• golden1

Night of the Living Dead is the classic, not Dawn of the Dead. And I agree there should be subgenres. Horror (Roger Corman films) and Drama (Johnny Guitar).

• Rick Hirsch

What about "Repo Man"?

• Steve Fortes

Good list. How about The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai?

• Richard

Anyone ever see "Timerider" with Fred Ward or "Shallow Grave" with Ewan McGregor? Two of my favorites that could also be on this list.

• Linda

How could you have overlooked "Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes"??

• Dave Manning

They all suck!!

• Bandyman

you forgot to include "attack of the slime people" another late night cult classic

• Kai Ferano

Well, my ol' brain went straight to (the original) "Carnival of Souls." This flick is kind of the flip side of, well, "Gidget."

• version

toss up beweteen Rocky Horror and Fearless Vamps for me. I like the suggestions of Buckaroo and Repo Men too; I consider some of Pythons movies CULT classics. Holy Grail; Life of Brian;

has anyone been to a Sound of Music revival - its the same devotees as Rocky Horror , sing alongs, cameos, costumes, ritual repeating and responses.

• DIRK

hey RICHARD, yes TIMERIDER was fantastic! Perfect ending that wraps up the time travel theme! And SHALLOW GRAVE's twist ending, very nice! The Best!
I might've added HEATHERS to this list of cult-classics from which to choose!

• lemchek

Cult Classics catagory covers to much ground. It ranges from "Wages of Fear" to "Hairspray". But in the spirt of the list my favorites are Barbarella with Jane Fonda, any of the italian sex romps with Edwige Fenech (then as now the most beautiful woman in the world), My Tutor, Emmanualle and The Story of O. But the all time world champion, head and shoulders above all the rest is "Mommy Dearest". Nuff said.

• fornham

Don't forget one of my favorites: Harold and Maude!

• Chris

Russ Meyer's films FASTER PUSSYCAT, KILL! KILL! and BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS should have been choices.

PLAN 9, FEARLESS VAMPIRE KILLERS, FREAKS and DAWN OF THE DEAD are all solid candidates...

• jeanine

Rocky Horror is my favorite, but I love Little Shop of Horrors and Killer Klowns From Outer Space.

• M. L. Wirick

Freaks. Enough said.

• Dana Rich

You forgot Forbidden Zone.. what a hoot..

• Mike Oldfield

For me, it is "Invasion Of The Body Snatchers"; a film which has no monsters yet is terrifying. The look on Kevin McCarthy's face when he kisses Dana Wynter and realizes that the pods have taken over her mind is one of the great reaction shots in movie history.

• Mark Behnken

Who can forget "They're coming to get you Barbara" from "Night of the Living Dead", however no film has ever had the cult following of "Rocky Horror Picture Show". We all still hum "Doing the Time Warp", two completely different films but both classics.

• Shawn

Freaks, a major studio would never produce a film like that nowadays. Such an incredible film and there's never been a another film like it, especially with all the pc bs nowadays.
Other cult films I love:
Polyester
Dawn of the Dead
The Evil Dead

• Publius

A "Cult" movie for me is where I know every line of dialogue in the movie, can act out any scene in the movie, and see the movie 100 times over and over again and never tire of it.
With that being said, here are my family favorite Cult films:

GONE WITH THE WIND
ON GOLDEN POND
CASABLANCA
SERGEANT YORK
WAY OUT WEST
PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (1925)
YOUNG MR. LINCOLN
BREAKING AWAY

How's that for being nuts??

Publius

• Jordash

Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes is another that should have been on here. A great cult classic!

• Pat

Nobody mentioned "Attack of the 50 Foot Woman". There was even a re-make of it.

• ron

what about vampyres lesbos and other jess franco
euro trash....so bad that they are great

• Tommy

What about "Night of the Living Dead" or "Airplane" or "Young Frankenstein" or "Caveman."

• Deme

Eraserhead ... Pink Floyd: The Wall... and more recently, Troll 2. But great midnight movie cult classics would also include Grease and Saturday Night Fever now, because there are 30 year olds who weren't around when they were first in theaters!!

• Joe

What about "Killer Clowns from Outerspace?"

• Mark H.

I can't believe The Green Slime wasn't one of the
choices. It's a true "cult classic".

I'm surprised "Evil Dead" didnt make this list. Personally, I hated it (loved "Army of Darkness", tho). But, I know it's a total cult classic.

• agb

DETOUR with Ann Savage and Tom Neal!

• Bryan

You know, it kills me! Some of you do this with every poll: yes, some of them will be left out! In case you didn't notice, they make more than 2 movies in a year! They HAVE to leave out something! Time constraints? Space requirements? Duh! Grow up, will ya'?

• Nick

"Lipstick"

• POWERWAGON

"CHRISTINE" WE WERE ALL ARNIE CUNNINGHAM/GEEKS AT ONE TIME IN HIGH SCHOOL? ALL WE NEEDED WAS THE LOVE OF A PLYMOUTH!

• Steven

My favorite all time cult classic is "Hot Rods To Hell," with the great Dana Andrews at the tail end of his career.......

• Steven

Hey Bryan, (if that is your real name!) Cool down, will ya? Just 'cause YOUR pic was so lame, and lost the contest!!!! HUH????

• mickey

I can't believe Pink Flamingos is only at 3%.
Eraserhead should be on the list as well as Re-Animator and Repo Man.

• jkin

"Beat the Devil" is a famous cult classic. Why not on the list?

• Karen

I would like to add Rock and Roll High School and Cool World.

• stephen Farris

"Fearless Vampire...",never heard of it. I do agree that the range of "cult classics" is broad. But "Rocky..." is one of those (know all the words, etc.) movies. Runs for years at a showing, costumed audience ,etc....

• Leslie Sexton

Fearless Vampire Hunters with Sharon Tate and Roman Polanski, still love it even though he is a bum. Anyway, would have likeed to seen Buckaroo Banzai on the list. I even got my husband hooked on Buckaroo! He always laughed at me for watching it, now he is hooked too.
