Let’s face it. Certain movie directors were/are horror specialists. Some set the tone for fright cinema (Tod Browning) or supplied shocks on shoestring budgets (Roger Corman). Some redefined the tropes of zombie flicks (George Romero). And some are busy blending psychologial terror with themes of identity and race (Jordan Peele). What’s more, each knew how to make audiences jump out of their seats.
As part of our ongoing Movie FrightFare festivities, this week’s poll invites you to vote for which filmmaker has given you the most goosebumps. For the sake of brevity we’re limiting the roster to U.S. directors, so no Mario Bava, David Cronenberg, Guillermo del Toro, or Alfred Hitchcock. If your top cinematic scaremeister isn’t listed, let us know in the comments.
