When Iron Man hit theaters in 2008, no one could have predicted the way it would have transform moviegoing. Sure, director Jon Favreau, star Robert Downey, Jr. and producer Kevin Feige all hoped that the film would be something special, and the seed for a Marvel Cinematic Universe was planted with one quick Samuel L. Jackson credits scene, but had the movie bombed the film-making landscape of 2020 would be a much different thing. As such, all of the early MCU films don’t get nearly enough credit. Thanks to engaging stories, great actors and a unified-yet-standalone sense of plotting, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the juggernaut we know today.
