Although overshadowed by its remake series in terms of pop culture appreciation, the original Battlestar Galactica contains plenty of sci-fi thrills of its own. Led by Lorne Greene as the heroic Captain Adama, the 1978-79 series was, during its original run, the most expensive TV series ever made. The show followed the crew of the massive starship Galactica as they shepherd a ragtag fleet carrying the survivors of destroyed solar systems on a quest to find the mysterious planet known as Earth while trying to outrun the deadly Cylons.
