Whether you realize it or it, Stanley Donen helped shape your love for the art of cinema. The beyond legendary director, who died yesterday at the age of 94, directed classics like Singin’ in the Rain, Funny Face, Damn Yankees, and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (among many more). He helped elevate the movie musical to a glamor-packed spectacle that rivaled the thrills that live theater could offer. Not content to bring his gifts to one genre, Donen also branched out into mystery (Charade), comedy (Bedazzled), and even science fiction (Saturn 3) in his decades-spanning career. Donen’s legacy is one rich with Hollywood lore, and the films he leaves behind are masterclasses in film study. We will have much more on his life and work elsewhere on the site, but for this post we want you to name your favorite of his movies. No small feat given his high quality of work and indelible talent.
