What’s Your Favorite Film Directed by Penny Marshall?

2018 has delivered another sad passing: Penny Marshall died yesterday at the age of 75 due to complications from diabetes. Best known for her work on the hilarious sitcom Laverne & Shirley, Marshall was a multi-talented performer and an underrated Hollywood gem. After transitioning from actress to director, she made headlines when her 1988 comedy Big (starring Tom Hanks) became the most successful movie ever helmed by a woman. She followed that success with the true-life drama Awakenings in 1990, then the pop culture phenomenon A League of Their Own in 1992. Her later years found her dividing her time between on-screen roles and more directorial jobs, including episodes of According to Jim and United States of Tara. In 2012, she wrote her well-received autobiography, My Mother Was Nuts, which gave tremendous insight into her life and the various creative undertakings that she charmed millions with.
