Looking Back At Marilyn Monroe in “How to Marry a Millionaire”

Today marks a sad anniversary as it was on this date in 1962 that Marilyn Monroe died tragically at the age of 36 in Los Angeles. Decades later and she remains one of the brightest — and most intriguing — stars ever to shine in Hollywood and across the globe. Despite her too-brief life, her work has lived on, with every subsequent generation since her passing learning to love Monroe and the films that she left behind.

For today’s movie trailer, we wanted to share the trailer for the 1953 romantic comedy classic How to Marry a Millionaire. The film chronicles the exploits of three New York-City based models who decide to rent a fancy apartment in Midtown who pretend to be rich in order to land their dream men.

Things don’t go as originally planned, with hilarious results. Take a look:

Marilyn Monroe is wooed by a playboy, but is snagged by tax-dodging crook David Wayne; Betty Grable hooks on to well-off Fred Clark, but falls for forest ranger Rory Calhoun; and Lauren Bacall attracts aging, affluent William Powell, but opts for the seemingly poor Cameron Mitchell.

More than holding her own alongside of Bacall and Grable, Monroe once again proves that she has the comedic chops to make ’em laugh. We wish she didn’t pass at so young an age, but there is comfort to be found in the films that continue to delight old and new fans across the globe.
