although Columbo was my favorite, I regularly watched the Mystery Movie whichever of the characters were the focus. (Columbo, as well as McCloud, Hec Ramsey and McMillan and Wife.) I also watched Kojak, Hawaii Five-O and others. I loved police shows when I was a kid.

Nowadays they ruin good cop shows with THE BIG CONSPIRACY. Castle and Hawaii Five-O come to mind on that.

  • NJP

Hunter was a great show the first 6 seasons when Stephanie Kramer was on the show.

My vote has to go to Kojak. Tough as nails, soft as butter, unbeatable catch phrase and a great cast. Series had it all and week to week, was unmissable.

I thought the original Hawaii Five-0 was great. It also had one of the all-time great theme songs and one of the all-time great villains (Wo Fat). But there were a lot of very good ones in that era.

I hated Columbo and still do. He was annoying, looked dirty and lazy.

  • Jackie Burbridge-Casey

    Silent Witness

It’s hard for me to believe that “The Wire” is polling so low. This is some of the best TV ever, in any genre, IMHO. I guess bcz it was on HBO so not as many people saw it as the series’ which ran on traditional (free) network TV channels? I highly, highly recommend it to anyone who has not seen it. Of course, it’s cable, so be ready for language, nudity, sex and violence not seen on “regular” TV. (It’s out on DVD)

If you’re talking about regular cops with badges, “McCloud” wins hands down. (When is the whole series going to be available on DVD?!) If PI’s, “Simon & Simon”–I even named my cat after them!

Adam 12, with Martin Milner and Kent McCord, AKA Officers Pete Malloy and Jim Reed. It was feel-good TV with uncomplicated scripts and nice guy cops.
