To kick things off, let’s take a look at the movie’s original trailer:
With a three-minute running time, what is fascinating about this trailer is how it gives away so much, yet nothing at all. There’s many iconic moments from the flick on display here (i.e. the “it’s a madhouse!” sequence), but it stops before giving away the true surprises of the flick. The trailer ends with an appearance from Charlton Heston himself that was filmed on the movie’s sets in which he explains why Planet of the Apes is unlike anything audiences have ever seen before. Nearly 50 years later, his words ring as true as ever.
