An easier question would be what is my least favorite genre… (it’s musicals). I love sci-fi and mystery, especially film noir. I also like a good war movie. My favorite would be John Wayne westerns, but I’m not a big fan of the western genre in general if he’s not in it. I also like comedies if they are not stupid (which is how I view most of Will Farrell’s output). And action movies, especially superheroes rank in my favorites (or would that fit in sci-fi?) I voted sci-fi because that’s what I have the most of next to John Wayne’s movies.

I would agree with you Quiggy on just about all your likes. There are not very many comedies that can make me laugh. But there are a few I can watch over and over and laugh every time such as “A Shot in the Dark”, Dr. Strangelove”, most of the Marx Bros. films, “Kelly’s Heroes”, and SOB.

HARD decision! I love action/adventure also big fan of horror. I have to agree with Quiggy… don’t like musicals and not crazy about westerns unless they’ve got Kiefer Sutherland in them. Got to vote horror I guess that’s the majority of my dvds.

I love Westerns! Being an early Boomer (b. 1950), I was literally weaned on the TV kind; I especially remember “Rin-Tin-Tin” and “The Lone Ranger.” Then my granddad introduced me to “Gunsmoke,” and I was gone forever. I think the Western is not only a modern morality play (as many people have observed), but the only truly American-born genre. It has a certain hopefulness that drama, thriller, etc., often doesn’t, because the good guys almost always win and the bad guys get what they deserve. It also takes us back to a time when most problems were simple and straightforward and could be easily solved just by using your head and your courage. My favorite Western actors, in no particular order, are John Wayne, Randolph Scott, Joel McCrea, Audie Murphy, Robert Fuller, and John Smith. I joyously collect the genre on DVD–half my collection, literally, is Westerns, either TV or movie.
