Lights Out And Other DVD & Blu-ray New Releases

Fittingly, a scary movie leads off this week’s DVD & Blu-ray new releases. But what else is now available? Let’s take a look!

Lights Out

Troubled Rebecca (Teresa Palmer) felt obliged to wrest custody of her kid brother Martin (Gabriel Bateman) from their chronically depressed mother Sophie (Maria Bello). She might be sparing him more than a tortured adolescence, though…as Sophie begins to manifest an unholy bond with a murderous psychic force that manifests in the dark. James Wan’s tidy shocker also stars Alexander DiPersia, Billy Burke, and Alicia Vela-Bailey. 81 min.

Captain Fantastic

Quirky individualist Ben (Viggo Mortensen) never had qualms or regrets about taking his wife and six kids off the grid for a physically and intellectually rigorous upbringing in the forests of the Pacific Northwest. In the wake of his spouse’s depression and suicide, however, he packs the clan off to her native Arizona for the funeral–and when his bitter father-in-law (Frank Langella) demands custody of his grandchildren, Ben may not be able to defend his choices, even to himself. Writer-director Matt Ross’ challenging comedy-drama co-stars Kathryn Hahn, and Steve Zahn. 120 min

Skiptrace

For better that a decade, Hong Kong cop Bennie Chan (Jackie Chan) has been trying to get the goods on the untouchable ganglord who killed his partner. On a tip, he heads to Siberia to corner the eyewitness who can pin his nemesis on a murder rap–degenerate American gambler Connor Watts (Johnny Knoxville). Cornering him is one thing…dragging him back to testify (on foot) is quite another! Renny Harlin directs this raucous buddy comedy. 98 min.
