It’s been 35 years since The Goonies, the Steven Spielberg-produced/Richard Donner-directed adventure focusing on a bunch of misfit kids (including Josh Brolin, Sean Astin, Corey Feldman, and Martha Plimpton) as they follow a treasure map with hopes of finding the riches needed to save their coastal Oregon homes from developers. A hit upon its initial release, the film has become beloved by each subsequent generation due to factors ranging from its goofy sense of humor to the Cyndi Lauper theme song. Not that it is universally beloved, critics rightfully declare that this is one of the noisiest films of the 1980s, but if that is what you are focusing on here you are kind of missing the point.
