With the planet decimated by voracious alien attackers that can target their prey via the slightest sound, Evelyn and Lee Abbott (Emily Blunt, John Krasinski) managed to carve out a backwoods survival for themselves, son Marcus (Noah Jupe), and hearing-impaired daughter Regan (Millicent Simmonds). Chappaquiddick

In July 1969, U.S. senator Ted Kennedy (Jason Clarke) accidentally drove his car off a bridge at Chappaquiddick Island, Massachusetts, resulting in the drowning death of his passenger–28-year-old campaign worker Mary Jo Kopechne (Kate Mara). The ensuing scandal–spurred largely by Kennedy’s actions in the wake of the accident–would ultimately derail his plans for a run at the White House and tarnish his remaining years. Future World

Breathless post-apocalyptic fantasy from co-director/star James Franco is set upon an Earth decimated from battle between humans and android “synthetics,” and follows a young man (Jeffrey Wahlberg) as he sets across the wasteland to bring back a cure for his dying mother (Lucy Liu). Will a sex-slave synthetic (Suki Waterhouse) prove an ally when he’s pursued by the cycle-riding minions of Warlord (Franco)? Lean on Pete

With a transient upbringing by his shiftless single dad (Travis Fimmel) having brought them to Portland, Oregon, teenager Charley Thompson (Charlie Plummer) needed a job, and he found one with low-end racehorse owner Del Montgomery (Steve Buscemi). Bonding with Del’s aging quarter horse Lean on Pete, Charley balked at the boss’s plans to put him down…and took him in search of a better life for them both. Andrew Haigh’s lyrical take on the Willy Vlautin novel co-stars Chloë Sevigny, Steve Zahn.

The Leisure Seeker

With her retired literature professor husband John (Donald Sutherland) slowly succumbing to dementia, and her own health compromised, Ella Spencer (Helen Mirren) abruptly proposed that they take off from Boston in the faithful old family RV for the trip he always wanted–Hemingway’s home in the Florida Keys. Sweet Country

In the Australian Northern Territory of the 1920s, preacher Fred Smith (Sam Neill) lent the services of his Aboriginal farmhand Sam Kelly (Hamilton Morris) to settling-in new neighbor Harry March (Ewen Leslie). However, after March’s drunken assault of Sam’s wife (Natassia Gorey Furber) leads to a self-defense shooting, the indigenous family is forced to go on the run through their home country from a determined posse. Affecting, fact-inspired drama also stars Bryan Brown, Natassia Gorey Furber, Matt Day.

One Good Cop

New York City police detective Artie Lewis (Michael Keaton) and his wife (Rene Russo) attempt to adopt the three daughters of his close friend and partner (Anthony LaPaglia), who has recently been killed in the line of duty. Artie finds out just how far an honest cop will go to provide for his family when he risks his conscience, his career, and his life to raise the money for a down payment on a house. Kevin Conway, Rachel Ticotin, Tony Plana, Benjamin Bratt co-star in this mix of action and drama.

The Born Losers

The character of Billy Jack was first introduced in this wild biker flick, with Tom Laughlin as the half-Indian Vietnam vet Billy standing up to the vicious Born Losers Motorcycle Club. With no help from the police or residents of Big Rock, Ca., Billy helps a young dropout (Elizabeth James) break free from the Born Losers. Dragon Inn (Criterion Collection)

During the Ming Dynasty, calculating functionary Zhao (Ying Bai) connived the execution of a political rival…and wanted to make sure that the dead man’s children did not survive their cross-country flight to Mongolia. After tracking the youths to a border inn, Zhao’s assassins received an unpleasant surprise, as a cadre of loyalist swordsmen stood ready to defend their prey. Fire Birds

When a South American drug cartel uses a Scorpion attack helicopter to take down American forces trying to raid their mountain compound, the DEA and U.S. Army decide to send an elite unit of Apache helicopter pilots to even the score. Nicolas Cage stars as one of the hot-shot flyers assigned to the team, Sean Young is the ex-girlfriend he must now serve with, and Tommy Lee Jones is the grizzled veteran flight instructor.
