Sintara, Mitchum, and de Havilland Shine in “Not as a Stranger”

Morton Thompson’s best-selling novel Not as a Stranger was adapted wonderfully for the big screen courtesy of United Artists and director Stanley Kramer (who made his motion picture debut with this feature). Originally hitting theaters on June 28, 1955, this star-studded melodrama star-studded melodrama features Robert Mitchum as Lucas Marsh, a poor intern who marries an older head nurse (Olivia de Havilland) in order to use her money to get through medical school. Upon graduating, he takes a job in a small town where, after an affair with a wealthy patient (Gloria Grahame), Marsh sees his marriage and career dissolve.
