Bring Your Own Movie Blog

Within a 24-hour period, I hustled myself out to the theaters to catch up with the much-talked-about Russell Crowe ship movie Noah, the Lars Von Trier sex-dysfunction epic Nymphomaniac, Vol. 1, and the faith-based drama God’s Not Dead. Without specifying which movie was which (so no, these do not appear in the strictest corresponding order)—I found one of these movies to be a highly imaginative if rather bonkers mess that I more or less enjoyed; one I decided was pretty much a big crock, filled with a fair amount of unintentional laughs; and one was a mental and physical ordeal I’m still fighting for the words to adequately describe.

You may, or may not, have an easy time of it narrowing down which review belongs with which movie. You may, or may not, be helped along if you’ve previously taken in my commentary on Jesus Movies, or my review of the always-controversial Von Trier’s 2009 film, Antichrist.

Also, I’ll quickly add that Wes Anderson’s latest, The Grand Budapest Hotel, is really all it’s cracked up to be and more. A work of genuine artistic brilliance as well as a thoroughly effective crowd-pleaser.

But this is Bring Your Own Movie Blog—so now it’s time for you to take over. The title is self-explanatory, I’d think. What movie(s) did you see this week? Any new releases? Anything on home video? Anything on television? Do you have a list of movies you’ve been aching to work out but not seen the opportunity to do so on these pages? A “Top 10” this…a “Worst Five” that?

A question to ask our readers about Ingrid Bergman? An opinion about any of the movies I mentioned I saw above? A rave to offer about how great a beloved classic looks on Blu-ray?

Tell us what you saw. Tell us what we’ve missed. Tell us what we should be reading about the movies, and where you read it.

This forum is yours for whatever movie-related topics you might choose—so have at it!
