On Wednesday Oscar-winning actress Geena Davis celebrates her 70th birthday. Born Virginia Elizabeth Davis in 1956, the Massachusetts native was voted “Most Talented” in her high school class. After briefly studying acting at Boston University, the 6′ tall Davis worked as a store window “mannequin” and model before making her screen debut as a soap opera actress in 1982’s Tootsie. Her ’80s roles included three films with second husband Jeff Goldblum (Transylvania 6-5000, The Fly, Earth Girls Are Easy); Tim Burton’s cult gem Beetlejuice; and the quirky comedy/drama The Accidental Tourist, for which she won the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award.
In the 1990s Geena would team with Susan Sarandon for a memorable cinematic road trip in Thelma & Louise. She showed off her athletic prowess in A League of Their Own; played a pirate in the infamous Cutthroat Island (directed by third hubby Renny Harlin); and was mother to a mouse in Stuart Little and its sequels. Her TV work includes such diverse shows as Sara, The Geena Davis Show, Commander in Chief, and The Exorcist. Over the last two decades Davis has balanced her performing career with raising three children and working for various social causes.
For this week’s poll, we’re asking you to vote for which of Geena’s movie turns is your favorite. If your choice isn’t listed below, please tell us in the comments.
