Well, Labor Day is upon us and the summer is becoming a memory. While you look back over the fun in the sun you had over the past couple of months, check out this week's new DVD and Blu-ray releases. (Mainly TV stuff, but a few films as well). Enjoy!
The popular "Saturday Night Live" character--a spoof of TV's "MacGyver"--makes his feature film debut in this hilarious laughfest. Will Forte stars as the titular ex-special operative who is called back into action to defeat his old enemy before the baddie destroys Washington, D.C., with a nuclear warhead. Teaming up with a singer/songwriter and a no-nonsense military man, MacGruber puts his dubious problem-solving skills to the test. Kristen Wiig, Ryan Phillippe, Val Kilmer co-star.
How did "New York's Honest Car Dealer" Ben Kalmen (Michael Douglas) make such a hash of his life? Not only has Ben cheated on his wife (Susan Sarandon), he's putting the moves on his new girlfriend's daughter (Imogen Poots). While Ben's daughter (Jenna Fischer) has given up faith in her father's redemption, the smooth-talking Ben makes a daring final attempt to re-ignite his life...and maybe even his integrity. Danny DeVito, Mary-Louise Parker co-star in this comedy-drama.
Killers
After a messy break-up, Jen Kornfeldt (Katherine Heigl) is certain she'll never love again--that is, until she meets the handsome Spencer Aimes (Ashton Kutcher). After they marry and settle down, Jen believes she has truly found her happily ever after. But when she learns that her loving husband neglected to tell her that he is an undercover assassin, their picture-perfect life is turned upside-down--and put in great danger. Tom Selleck, Catherine O'Hara, Rob Riggle co-star in this hilarious romantic comedy. Another mediocre comedy from Katherine Heigl? Who would've guessed!

Debuting in 2005, this gripping CBS crime drama stars Thomas Gibson, Lola Glaudini and Mandy Patinkin. All 23 episodes from the fifth season--including "Faceless, Nameless," "Cradle to Grave," "Risky Business," "Solitary Man," and "Our Darkest Hour"--are featured in a six-disc set.
Based on the renowned 2001-2003 BBC comedy, this NBC mockumentary series chronicles the interoffice politics at the Dunder Mifflin Paper Supply Company in Scranton, Pennsylvania. As tactless boss Michael (Steve Carell) presides over his staff--which includes clueless assistant Dwight (Rainn Wilson), bored office drone Jim (John Krasinski), put-upon secretary Pam (Jenna Fischer), and wise temp Ryan (B.J. Novak)--a hilarious glimpse into the contemporary American workplace is revealed. All 25 episodes from the sixth season--including "Gossip," "Mafia," "Scott's Tots," "Manager and Salesman," and "Whistleblower"--are included in a five-disc set.
Supernatural: The Complete Fifth Season

Smallville: The Complete Ninth Season
Debuting on the WB network in 2001, this imaginative revamping of the Superman legend stars Tom Welling as teenager Clark Kent, struggling to come to terms with the strange abilities developing within him and to discover the truth behind his origin. Kristin Kreuk is Lana Lang, Clark's classmate and unrequited love interest, and Michael Rosenbaum is mysterious millionaire scion Lex Luthor. Sam Jones III, Allison Mack, Annette O'Toole and John Schneider also star. All 21 episodes from season nine--including "Savior," "Metallo," "Kandor," "Absolute Justice," and "Salvation"--are featured in a six-disc set. He still doesn't fly, by the way.
Chuck: The Complete Third Season
NBC's action-packed spy comedy stars Zachary Levi as a computer geek slacker who unwittingly downloads stolen government documents. He's then recruited by the CIA, and a super sexy female agent (Yvonne Strahovski) is dispatched to protect him 24/7. This puts Levi in constant danger and catapults him into a foreign world of international intrigue and combat. Adam Baldwin and Sarah Lancaster co-star. All 19 episodes from season three--including "Chuck Versus the Pink Slip," "Chuck Versus Operation Awesome," "Chuck Versus the Beard," "Chuck Versus the Living Dead," and "Chuck Versus the Ring: Part II"--are featured in a five-disc set.
The Guardian: The Second Season
Hotshot lawyer Nick Fallin (Simon Baker) is busted on drug charges and sentenced to 1500 hours of community service. Now, Nick must juggle his day job and strained relationship with his father and boss (Dabney Coleman) while doing his time with the Pittsburgh legal aid office where he becomes an unlikely advocate for the children who get caught up in the system. Alan Rosenberg, Wendy Moniz, Raphael Sbarge co-star in this 2001-04 drama series. All 23 episodes from the second season--including "Testimony," "The Dark," "My Aim Is True," "Burton & Ernie," and "All the Rage"--are collected in a six-disc set.
