The Terminator<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n

James Cameron’s exciting sci-fi actioner stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as an unstoppable cybernetic killer who’s travelled back in time to terminate Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), the woman whose child would someday lead a revolt against the robotic rulers of future Earth. Michael Biehn co-stars as a soldier from the Terminator’s time sent to protect Sarah and save mankind. With Paul Winfield, Lance Henriksen, Earl Boen, and the great Dick Miller.<\/p>\n

Heavy Metal<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n

One of the most requested titles at Movies Unlimited is this cutting-edge animated adventure inspired by the popular fantasy magazine. The fantastic stories, which revolve around the powers of a mysterious jewel, include a futuristic cab driver, a sword-swinging warrior, a Pentagon secretary abducted by a UFO and a doomed B-17 pilot. John Candy and Joe Flaherty contribute their voices; music by Black Sabbath, Blue \u00d6yster Cult, Cheap Trick, and others.<\/p>\n

When Worlds Collide<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n

Based on the novel by Sydney Boehm, producer George Pal’s science fiction classic paved the way for many of today’s space spectaculars. As the star Bellus and its orbiting planet Zyra hurdle towards a defenseless Earth, a determined scientist must race against time to build an escape ship in the hopes that a lucky few can survive the impending collision. Richard Derr, Larry Keating, Barbara Rush, John Hoyt star.<\/p>\n

The Thing<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n

John Carpenter’s harrowing remake of the ’50s classic centers on a snowbound research team in Antarctica that encounters a vicious, shape-shifting alien organism. Cut off from the rest of the world, paranoia and mistrust begin to set in as the men realize any one of them could be the creature. Features state-of-the-art (for their time) makeup effects and a haunting score from Ennio Morricone. Kurt Russell, Keith David, Donald Moffat, Richard Dysart, and Wilford Brimley star.<\/p>\n

E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n

One of the most popular films of all time, Steven Spielberg’s science-fantasy epic is a wonderful fable for all ages. When an alien becomes stranded on Earth, he’s befriended by 10-year-old Elliott (Henry Thomas) who enlists the aid of his older brother Michael (Robert MacNaughton) and younger sister Gertie (Drew Barrymore) in an effort to help the extra-terrestrial get home. Dee Wallace, Peter Coyote also star.<\/p>\n

Flash Gordon<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n

Flash! Aaah! Flash Gordon (Sam J. Jones), quarterback for the New York Jets, and travel agent Dale Arden (Melody Anderson) are hijacked into a desperate space mission by mad scientist Dr. Hans Zarkov (Topol) in an effort to save the Earth from certain destruction at the hands of the maniacal Ming the Merciless (Max Von Sydow). Timothy Dalton, Ornella Muti, Brian Blessed co-star in this colorful, tongue-in-cheek adaptation of the serial favorite; features music by Queen.<\/p>\n

Snowpiercer<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n

After a botched experiment to reverse global warming plunges the planet into another ice age, mankind’s few thousand survivors are herded onto the “Snowpiercer,” an earth-girdling, self-sustaining bullet train. The rear-car passengers live in crushing destitution, until an uprising is mounted to storm the front-end stronghold of the privileged. Potent parable stars Chris Evans, Ed Harris, Jamie Bell, Octavia Spencer, Tilda Swinton, and John Hurt.<\/p>\n

The Green Slime<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n

The good news for the intrepid team of astronauts was that their mission to detonate an Earth-bound asteroid succeeded. The bad news was that the mysterious residue that clung to a crewman\u2019s suit turned out to be a living entity…one that grew and multiplied into one-eyed, tentacled monsters! The space station becomes a battleground for survival in this MGM-Toei co-production shot by a Japanese crew. Robert Horton, Richard Jaeckel, Luciana Paluzzi star<\/p>\n

Godzilla<\/a><\/em> (Criterion Collection)<\/p>\n

Atomic testing in the Pacific awakens a gigantic reptilian creature dubbed Godzilla off the coast of Japan and sends the monstrous menace on a rampage across Tokyo and its environs. Director Ishiro Honda’s “kaiju” classic spawned innumerable sequels; Akihiko Hirata, Takashi Shimura, Momoko Kochi, and Haru Nakajima star. Includes the original Japanese release “Gojira” and the 1956 re-dubbed American version “Godzilla, King of the Monsters,” with Raymond Burr.<\/p>\n

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n

A terraforming project code-named Genesis becomes the key to revenge for Kirk’s old nemesis\u2500the genetically engineered Khan\u2500who hatches a plot to get even with the admiral for marooning him 15 years earlier. The big-screen follow-up to the classic TV episode “Space Seed” also features the emotional (and permanent?) death of a crew member. William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley, Kirstie Alley, and Ricardo Montalban star.<\/p>\n
