This past week saw the release of the \u201cHollywood Royalty Edition\u201d of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moviesunlimited.com\/mommie-dearest\/032429273765\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><em>Mommie Dearest<\/em><\/a>.  Based on the best-selling (and still scandalous) biography by Christina Crawford, this compelling and campy \u2013 who can forget the infamous \u201cno wire hangers!\u201d scene? \u2013 examines the challenges that Joan faced balancing motherhood and her career. Highlighted by a delightfully unhinged performance by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moviesunlimited.com\/search?cr=Faye%20Dunaway%7C621992&amp;mod=AP\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Faye Dunaway<\/a> as Crawford and a sympathetic turn by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moviesunlimited.com\/search?cr=Diana%20Scarwid%7C583102&amp;mod=AP\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Diana Scarwid<\/a> as an adult Christina, the movie examines the pitfalls of growing up in the shadow of a celebrity. <\/p>\n<p>Although the accuracy of some of the claims made by the younger Crawford in her book and its resulting film adaptation have been both confirmed and debunked by various parties over the years, interest in Mommie Dearest has never waned.
