February 27, 1932<\/span>: Elizabeth Taylor<\/a>, one of the greatest actresses of Hollywood’s Golden Age was born on this day in 1932. Taylor was recognized for her acting ability, beauty and distinctive violet eyes.<\/p>\n

March 2, 1906<\/span>: Biograph Studios wins appeal of kinetoscope inventor Edison’s patent claims, preventing (temporarily) a potential monopoly on the making of movies.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

February 27, 1920<\/span>: German expressionist painting and design are captured to great effect in Robert Wiene<\/a>‘s The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari<\/em>.
<\/span><\/p>\n

March 1, 1924<\/span>:\u00a0 The first of Walt Disney’s Alice<\/em> short subjects, mixing live-action and animation, Alice’s Day at Sea<\/em>, is released.<\/span><\/p>\n

March 1, 1926<\/span>: Young British director Alfred Hitchcock<\/a> releases his first finished, credited work, The Pleasure Garden<\/em>. <\/span><\/p>\n

March 2, 1933<\/span>: “The Eighth Wonder of the World,” King Kong<\/em>, is unleashed on New York by RKO Pictures, during its hair-raising premiere.<\/span><\/p>\n

February 27, 1934<\/span>: A lawsuit against MGM’s Rasputin and the Empress<\/em> results in the now-familiar “The events and characters in this film are fictional…” disclaimer.<\/span><\/p>\n

February 27, 1935<\/span>: It Happened One Night<\/em> makes Academy Award history by taking Best Picture, Actor, Actress and Director.<\/span><\/p>\n

March 2, 1939<\/span>: B-Western hero John Wayne<\/a> is catapulted to stardom when he plays the Ringo Kid in John Ford<\/a>‘s hit frontier drama Stagecoach<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

February 27, 1940<\/span>: With a host of extraordinary films on the ballot, the Oscars are nearly swept by Selznick’s Gone With the Wind<\/em>, which takes home nine. <\/span><\/p>\n

March 3, 1950<\/span>: Marx Brothers Groucho<\/a>, Chico<\/a> and Harpo<\/a> make their final film appearance as a team in Love Happy<\/em>, with a young Marilyn Monroe<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

March 1, 1973<\/span>: A New York court rules the adult movie Deep Throat<\/em> to be obscene. A fine double the film’s box office receipts is imposed.<\/span><\/p>\n
