\"Polar<\/p>\n

1. The Polar Express<\/a> (2004) – Tom Hanks<\/a> stars as a conductor on a train to the North Pole. Roger Ebert describes the film as a \u201cmovie in the process of becoming an enduring classic.\u201d Director Robert Zemeckis<\/a> has created a wonderful and mythical make-believe world not unlike the \u201cMerry Old Land of Oz\u201d in the 1939 Classic The Wizard of Oz. Hanks does everything but sell tickets at the box office, creating a total of five roles.<\/p>\n

2. How the Grinch Stole Christmas<\/a> (1966) – A nasty green fellow called the\u00a0Grinch lives in the hills above Whoville,\u00a0hates Christmas with a passion, and plans to stop\u00a0it from coming by stealing toys, food, and presents from the Whos. Dr. Seuss’ timeless tale\u00a0is wonderfully animated by Chuck Jones, of Looney Toons<\/a> fame, and masterfully narrated by the incomparable Boris Karloff<\/a>.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0A Charlie Brown Christmas<\/a>\u00a0(1965) – In this TV special,\u00a0Charles Schulz’s\u00a0Peanuts gang stages a Yuletide pageant while Charlie Brown attempts to discover \u201cthe true meaning of Christmas\u201d The highpoint is Linus\u2019 classic recital of the Nativity Story from the Gospel of Luke. Another memorable moment is the unveiling of the iconic diminutive Christmas tree that cannot support even a single ornament. The Vince Guaraldi Jazz Trio\u2019s lively\u00a0score is equally unforgettable.<\/p>\n

\"CLAYMATION<\/a>4. \u00a0A Claymation Christmas Celebration <\/a>(1987) –\u00a0Herb and Rex are dinosaurs who introduce a host of wonderful numbers, including the hilarious \u201cCarol of the Bells.\u201d Also featured are \u201cWe Three Kings,\u201d \u201cAngels We Have Heard on High\u201d and the California Raisins’ soulful rendition of “Rudolph.”<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0A Garfield Christmas (1987) – Christmas with the\u00a0dysfunctional Arbuckle family created by Jim Davis. Garfield<\/a>, Jon and Odie head to their relatives to celebrate the holidays, and the orange tabby’s legendary gluttony steals the show.<\/p>\n

6.\u00a0Babes in Toyland<\/a> (1997) – A lively rendition of the classic children\u2019s Christmas fantasy by early 20th-century composer Victor Herbert. The beautiful Mary Contrary is saved from marrying the villain Barnaby instead of her true love, Jack Be Nimble. Featuring the voices of Christopher Plummer<\/a>, James Belushi <\/a>and Bronson Pinchot<\/a>.<\/p>\n

7.\u00a0A\u00a0Walt Disney Christmas (1982) – A\u00a0number of classic Christmas shorts are included in this video, such as \u201cPluto\u2019s Christmas Tree\u201d starring those talented ground squirrels, Chip and Dale, as well as the 1932 Silly Symphony \u201cSanta\u2019s Workshop.” Unfortunately, this feature was\u00a0only to be found on VHS, although some of the shorts are available on the Mickey’s Christmas Carol DVD. (More on that in a minute).<\/p>\n

8. ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas<\/a> (1974) – This film focuses on the magic of Christmas Eve, and children\u2019s great expectations. The film tells of mice and men in a small town where, sadly, Santa will not be visiting this year because of an unfortunate letter from the pen of Albert Mouse.<\/p>\n

9.\u00a0Mickey’s Christmas Carol<\/a> (1983) – Scrooge McDuck\u00a0stars as, naturally, Ebenezer Scrooge, and Mickey Mouse is the cheerful and always grateful Bob Cratchit. Goofy is excellent as Scrooge\u2019s partner Jacob Marley. With apologies to Charles Dickens.<\/p>\n

\"RUDOLPH<\/a>10.\u00a0Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer<\/a> (1964) – One of the most beloved holiday classics ever, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is essentially a story of misfits finding their place, be they reindeer, elves or\u00a0forgotten toys. Singer\u00a0Burl Ives livens up a charming soundtrack that includes \u201cA Holly Jolly Christmas\u201d and \u201cSilver and Gold.\u201d<\/p>\n
