Here&#8217;s a report on how the democratization of filmmaking technology is helping the nation&#8217;s aspiring film artists make their own stories:<\/p>\n<div class=\"vid\"><object classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"data\" value=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/resources_v2\/flash\/video_embed.swf?videoId=100339\" \/><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowScriptAccess\" value=\"always\" \/><param name=\"wmode\" value=\"transparent\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/resources_v2\/flash\/video_embed.swf?videoId=100339\" \/><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" value=\"true\" \/><embed type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/resources_v2\/flash\/video_embed.swf?videoId=100339\" wmode=\"transparent\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" data=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/resources_v2\/flash\/video_embed.swf?videoId=100339\"><\/embed><\/object><\/div>\n<p>This is great news, because for every quality picture like <a title=\"General Idi Amin\u00a0Dada\" href=\"http:\/\/www.moviesunlimited.com\/musite\/product.asp?sku=D28867&amp;loc=buzzsearch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">General Idi Amin\u00a0Dada<\/a> and <a title=\"The Last King of Scotland\" href=\"http:\/\/www.moviesunlimited.com\/musite\/product.asp?sku=B51561&amp;loc=buzzsearch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Last King of Scotland<\/a>, there&#8217;s always an <a title=\"Amin! The Rise and Fall trailer\" href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=VpNQNL4DeMs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Amin! The Rise and Fall<\/a> (guilty pleasure though it may be) to tip the scales of movies about the country back down. Not to mention the fact\u00a0that there simply <em>have to be<\/em> other stories about Uganda to be told than just sordid recountings of Amin&#8217;s grotesque rule. And, if Hollywood proves less than interested in these stories, it&#8217;s good to see the power to tell them taking shape from within.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s also great news on the lighter side, because&#8211;well, see for yourself. Here&#8217;s the trailer for Uganda&#8217;s &#8220;first action movie,&#8221; which I confess, quickened my pulse more than the trailers for many of our current homegrown blockbusters:<\/p>\n<div class=\"vid\"><object width=\"425\" height=\"349\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/aZXqkgFegLQ?version=3&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/aZXqkgFegLQ?version=3&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"425\" height=\"349\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\"><\/embed><\/object><\/div>\n<p>Sure, Bollywood doesn&#8217;t have anything to worry about just yet\u2014but can there be any doubt that\u00a0<strong>Who Killed Captain Alex<\/strong> will one day be seen by some mid-level Tinseltown executive as the next <a title=\"Slumdog Millionaire\" href=\"http:\/\/www.moviesunlimited.com\/musite\/product.asp?sku=B71026&amp;loc=buzzsearch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Slumdog Millionaire<\/a>? (Or at least the next <a title=\"Birdemic: No One Sets Out To Make A Bad Movie\" href=\"http:\/\/www.moviefanfare.com\/staff-notes\/no-one-sets-out-to-make-a-bad-movie\/\" target=\"_blank\">Birdemic<\/a>?)
