Fred Willard, comedic character actor great, has died at the age of 86 of natural causes. With a career lasting from 1967 to this year (his final performance will be a recurring role in the upcoming comedy series Space Force, in which he reunited with his Anchorman co-star Steve Carell), Willard shined in every role he undertook. His ability to steal scenes is the stuff of Hollywood legend, and evident to anyone who has seen the fondly remembered talk show spoof Fernwood 2 Night or ever had to pleasure to experience his roles in the Christopher Guest mockumentaries A Mighty Wind, Waiting for Guffman and Best in Show — the latter of which features what is arguably Willard’s funniest role. Fred Willard was a comedic alchemist who was able to weave any performance into creative gold, and we are so grateful for the decades of work that he leaves behind.
