The biggest pop culture event of this past weekend was the 12th season finale of the Doctor Who reboot. Spoiler alert! While the Lone Cyberman and his army continued their plot to wipe out the remnants of humanity, The Master (Sacha Dhawan) showed The Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) the truth about her origins — namely that she was an intergalactic orphan whose ability to regenerate was DNA spliced into Gallifreyans and that she has had many lives that herself (and viewers) had no idea about. (Although this plot thread dates back to the Tom Baker-era adventure “The Brain of Morbius” and the so-called “Cartmel Masterplan” that was going to be a part of Sylvester McCoy‘s time on the show before the series was unceremoniously cancelled in 1989).
Doctor Who fans being a dedicated, ornery lot, this season’s finale has caused an incredible amount of debate, with some viewers feeling it has revitalized the series after the fairtytale bloat of former showrunner Steven Moffatt’s time on the series and others angrily declaring that current creative lead Chris Chibnall has now utterly broken the series. As Whovian’s everywhere are playing Monday morning quarterback about the episode, we wanted to get your thoughts. Sound off below with your thoughts on the state of Doctor Who, and feel free to discuss all aspects of the series as well!
