Warrner Brothers: Out-Of-Print DVD Titles Return

Warrner Brothers: Out-Of-Print DVD Titles ReturnThey’re Baa-aaack:  Warner continues to give a new lease on life to out-of-print DVD titles via the Archive program, as evidenced by these resurfacing rousers: The Last of Sheila (1973) is a crackerjack mystery in which James Coburn tries to find out who killed his gossip columnist girl in a hit-and-run accident by luring the suspects to a yacht for a devious mind game; James Mason, Raquel Welch, Dyan Cannon, Richard Benjamin and Joan Hackett also star…

The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean (1972) stars Paul Newman is the old West outlaw-turned-judge who seeks revenge against those who wanted him to hang in John Huston’s comic oater, co-starring Victoria Principal, Anthony Perkins, and Ava Gardner…

Ray Harryhausen’s special effects magic marks The Valley of Gwangi (1969), where the impromptu Mexican expedition by a band of rodeo cowboys uncovers a ravine where prehistoric life still thrives…

Warren Beatty and Annette Bening become the vacationers caught up in whirlwind romance, and subsequent heartbreak, in Love Affair (1994); Katharine Hepburn co-stars… Fans of classic movies will recognize the similarity to Leo McCarey’s original Love Affair (1939) and his own remake almost thirty years later, An Affair To Remember (1957) with Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr.

Two American cousins abroad in ‘80s Spain deal with life and the opposite sex in Whit Stillman’s witty Barcelona (1994)… and a new-to-the-neighborhood teenage girl bonds with a withdrawn young boy, and a memorable secret is uncovered, in the youth classic The Boy Who Could Fly (1986).

I’ve never understood why a DVD would go out-of-print in the first place, there is always a chance of first-time watchers of any film or TV series,so a studio should always have them available,it only makes good business sense! If made-on-demand helps make the idea of  “Out-of-print” a thing of the past, that would be a godsend to Film fans and DVD collectors everywhere!

  • Blair Kramer

I have owned a standard DVD copy of THE VALLEY OF GWANGI for years.  So now,  why can’t Warners release a Blu-Ray DVD edition of that film?  Unless I’m mistaken,  it’s not coming out on Blu-Ray DVD.  Or is it?  If it IS coming out on Blu-Ray DVD,  why can’t I find an internet retailer who has it for sale?  Can anyone help me with this question?

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/WP2I6RZT7I4QQOUS7TKDPVLLIY Frank S

I wish these movies would be re-released as they have been off the market for decades. The return of these movies are long over due and they are 1. Robbery ( The British Version); and 2. Let It Be.

  • Dairis

I’ve been waiting for Electra Glide in Blue to be re-released. It’s a cult movie and I’m sure that there is a pretty big demand for it.

  • Rchowe

Another bit of trivia regarding “The Last of Sheila”…  The film’s screenplay was co-written by Anthony Perkins, some thirteen years after starring in Hitchcock’s classic “Psycho.”

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/PODTFFPVEUXYHXVGNS5G5FWKGI DIRK

Yes, it was written by Anthony Perkins AND Stephen Sondheim (the broadway guy!)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Doc_Ostrow

It is outrageous that it took 13 years for The African Queen (1952), 12 years for Stairway to Heaven (1946), and 14 years for Island of Lost Souls 1932) to appear on Blu-ray or DVD.  Why hasn’t The Uninvited (1944), I Married a Witch (1942), or The Devil and Miss Jones

(1941) also appeared at least on DVD?  Many bad movies have been put on DVD earlier and now Warner Archive is also putting them on DVD-R.  I admit that I’ve ordered perhaps 25 good Warner Archive movies such as The Search (1948), Naughty Marietta (1935), Ruggles of Red Gap (1935), The Mortal Storm (1940), and The Prize (1963).

  • mark smith

Warners needs to get it in gear and release Ken Russell’s THE DEVILS on blu-ray.  It’s a hot property, and there is a now a decent UK DVD, but a high-definition version from the studio that released it would be best.

  • Neil Blount

“Ulzana’s Raid” (1972) — directd by Robert Aldrich — was one of many fine, unsung perfomances by Burt Lancaster. His gritty performance as an Indian scout for a Cavalry unit after a renegade Apache in the Old West is unforgettable. I’d love to find an affordable DVD of this one.

I know it’s Fox and not Warner Brothers, but I wish “I Am Suzanne” (1933) were restored to DVD.  I have a very rough copy.  This entertaining classic starred Lilian Harvey and Gene Raymond, and featured some of the most outstanding puppet work ever committed to film.

  • R Quesenbury

Not sure which studio produced it, but my real strong desire is to see “Little boy Lost,” with Bing Crosby restored. It deserves a new life.
