No doubt you are aware that Miss Colbert only likes to be photographed in left profile, which must have made things awkward for directors and fellow actors

I would add one more film. Was Claudette Colbert ever more SEXY that as Cleopatra in Cecil B. DeMille's classic the same time she was making It Happened One Night??!! No wonder Warren William went ga-ga!!!!!

Claudette was one of my favorites. I remember a movie titled Skylark with Raymond Milland which I never see on tv.
They played a married couple who owned a boat and end up getting divorced but got back together at the end of the movie--of course!

My favorite Claudette Colbert movies are "Since You Went Away" and "Tomorrow is Forever." I became aware of Ms. Colbert by watching movies on cable channels and instantly fell in love with her. She radiated warmth and realism in her performances. I can't see enough of her movies.

Jerry, Thank you for a wonderful article. I had the genuine and sincere pleasure of knowing Miss Colbert and can truthfully say that she was just as lovely inside as she was outside. She was, without doubt, a truly gracious human being. My favorite "Colbert Moment" is, in reality, nothing more than a short vignette that takes place in the 1944 film Since You Went Away. It is the scene between Colbert and the great Silent Film Star Alla Nazimova who, by the time this movie was made, had all but been forgotten. In this scene, all that Colbert was required to do was listen to a short monologue given by Nazimova - playing a recent emigre to the United States - Colbert told me that she was in such awe of Nazimova's talent that she could not stop tears from coming to her eyes.

Thank you, Jerry, for another delightful journey down memory lane! Ms Colbert was a remarkable actress indeed and you reminded me of one of my all-time favorite classics: Boom Town! I first saw it as a kid on Los Angeles TV's Fabulous 52 movie series, but was too young to fully comprehend the very adult relationships and fascinating plot involving the politics attending the early days of the oil industry. I recently had the chance to see it a second time and was blown away by the timeless story and superb acting of Colbert, Clark Gable, Spencer Tracy, Hedy Lamarr and a top-notch supporting cast. Highly recommended to anyone who has not yet experienced this wonderful MGM classic. You also remind me of another movie I saw as a kid on that same TV movie series - Three Came Back. One I also want to soon see again as an adult. I was unaware of Ms Colbert's aborted opportunity to play the lead in All About Eve. It is hard to imagine how different it would have been without Betty Davis as Margo! Lastly, you remind me that I have never seen Without Reservations, a missed opportunity I look forward to rectifying soon.
