They can keep making new and different versions but nothing will take the place of the original.

"The Wizard of Oz" is very much a classic. Hard to imagine any different people in the parts today. The bright colors are dazzling. I loved the live Broadway "Wiz" but hated the movie with a grown up Diana Ross playing Dorothy.

I first saw Wizard of Oz in its 1949 re-release in a Saturday afternoon showing in the Gregg Theater in Gladewater, Tex. The small movie theater was completely filled with kids (I doubt if there was an adult in the place other than the theater staff) to the point that my younger brother and I were among the kids "seated" on the stage area at the foot of the movie screen--we had to lie on our backs and look up to see the movie looming over us and slightly out of focus because of our closeness to the screen. Thing I remember most was coming out of the theater with such a headache! Eye strain, I suppose.

Well, the one thing that comes to my mind, is, I was born 16 days after this premier. Little did I know until now how close we were. I have seen and enjoyed this movie many times over my 70 years.
