Joan Crawford in the Fifties

Joan Crawford turns in a powerhouse performance as “Harriet Craig” (1950), a neurotic perfectionist whose need for neatness and control in her stately mansion borders on the psychotic. When she sabotages husband Wendell Corey’s chances for a job promotion, he is forced to admit her selfishness is out of control. “Autumn Leaves” (1956) casts Crawford as a middle-age spinster who finds the love she has always longed for with younger man Cliff Robertson, unaware of the dark secrets in his life. Vera Miles co-stars; Robert Aldrich directs. And in “The Story Of Esther Costello” (1957), Crawford is a wealthy American divorcee vacationing in Ireland who takes an  interest in the plight of a young girl left blind, deaf, and mute from a childhood trauma. Rossano Brazzi co-stars. Four-disc set also includes “Queen Bee.”

A Gifted Man: The Complete Series (2011)

Lots of people are haunted by their exes, but then there’s upscale Manhattan surgeon Michael Holt (Patrick Wilson), who starts receiving visitations from the spirit of his newly deceased former spouse, Dr. Anna Paul (Jennifer Ehle). Implored to take the reins of her now-rudderless free clinic, the self-involved medico gets back in touch with his oath to heal in this CBS drama. Margo Martindale, Pablo Schreiber also star.
