The Bowery Boys Collection, Vol. 1

Process server Slip (Leo Gorcey) finds shady doings at his sister’s workplace in “Live Wires” (1946). The boys are “In Fast Company” (1946) when they help gypsy hacks against a cab company’s strong-arm tactics. It’s a “Bowery Bombshell” (1946) when a photo wrongly implicates Sach (Huntz Hall) in a robbery. The boys turn “News Hounds” (1947) and try to expose a shady sports betting ring.  The boys are “Fighting Fools” (1949) when they take on boxing fixers.  It’s a case of “Hold That Baby!” (1949) after they’re saddled with an abandoned infant. Sach gets drawn into a mad scientist’s brain-switching experiment in “Master Minds” (1949) and many other classic Bowery Boys episodes.

Early Films of Tom Mix

In this collection of vintage silent western shorts, director and star Tom Mix first plays a foreman who assists in “The Auction Sale Of Run-Down Ranch” (1915). With Victoria Forde, Joe Simkins. Next, Mix has a hankerin’ for a bride, so he puts an ad in the classifieds, in “Cactus Jim’s Shop Girl” (1915). Goldie Colwell, Sid Jordan co-star. Mix goes up against bootleggers, in “The Man Hunt” (1915).  In the humorous and exciting “Sagebrush Tom” (1915), writer/director/star Mix woos an actress. With Colwell, Ed Brady. Finally, Mix participates in “The Taming Of Grouchy Bill” (1916) on behalf of a lady who needs his help. Forde, Jordan co-star.

Perry Mason: The Eighth Season, Vol. 1 (1964) The first 15 episodes from the eighth season–including “The Case of the Missing Button,” “The Case of the Sleepy Slayer,” “The Case of the Nautical Knot,” “The Case of the Tragic Trophy,” and “The Case of the Frustrated Folksinger”–are featured in a four-disc set.

The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show: The Complete Animated Series The gang from “Peanuts” finally made a series TV bow with this well-remembered CBS Saturday morning entry that aired over 1983-1985. Lucy, Linus, and all the rest of the kids figured in skits and blackouts based on Charles M. Schulz’s actual comic strips.

Luck: The Complete First Season (2012) The producer of “Deadwood” rolled the dice on this complex, gripping series starring Dustin Hoffman as Chester “Ace” Bernstein, a recently paroled gambler looking to make a big score on California horse racing. Fresh out of prison, Bernstein forges an alliance with his intimidating chauffer Gus (Dennis Farina) and a trainer (John Ortiz) with a stained reputation–and prepares to make the bet of his life. Nick Nolte, Richard Kind, and Kerry Condon co-star.

Cannon: Season Three (1973)  All 24 episodes of season three–including “He Who Digs a Grave,” “Come Watch Me Die,” “A Well Remembered Terror,” “Where’s Jennifer?,” and “The Stalker”–are featured in a six-disc set

Hot in Cleveland: Season Three (2011) All 24 episodes from the third season–including “Elka’s Choice,” “How Did You Guys Meet, Anyway?,” “Lost Loves,” “Storage Wars,” and “Blow Outs”–are featured in a three-disc set.

In Search Of…: The Complete Collection Originally airing from 1976 to 1982, this fascinating documentary series hosted by Leonard Nimoy examines mysteries and supernatural phenomena. While going in search of the truth about everything from the existence of Bigfoot to the final fate of legendary skyjacker D.B. Cooper, the program aimed to enlighten as it entertained.
