    Cat movies...

Being a devoted cat lover and owner, I have wondered by dog films made heroes of dogs, while cats were image eclipsed. Well, I was wrong because there were films portraying cats as such. I go back to the 1950's to dig up "Rhubarb", who saves the day for a baseball team, or Steven King's "Cat's Eye", who rescues a little girl from some monster. However, my favorite was "Harry and Tonto", which came out later, about life, love and the nostalgic passing of time in a lifetime.

In the mid '90s I was in the Oklahoma National Guard. I was the First Sergeant of an Air Traffic Control company. One of my senior NCOs was a guy named Jack Holt. As I got to know everyone in the company I found out the Jack's father was a celebrity of some kind but never inquired. We spent a summer camp at Camp Gruber in Braggs, Oklahoma. One evening I came in from a staff meeting and since it was after duty hours the guys in the company had fired up the TV and VCR. They were watching an old B&W serial western.
I got a coke out of the ice chest and sat down on one of the bunks to watch the movie. That's when I took notice that Jack looked alot like the main charactor in the movie. I said to him; "Jack, you look just like that guy!" In reply he said; "I ought to, that's my dad!" I asked if he did anything besides serial westerns? Jack asked me if I had ever seen "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre", "Stage Coach" or "My Darling Clementine"? I got to know Jack better over the next couple of years. Not only was he a very intelligent man but he was also a good leader and one of my best NCOs
