How the hell can you ask anyone to vote on the all time greatest movie star without names like :
BOGART , OLIVIER , BARRYMORE, HESTON , DOUGLAS,
WAYNE or LANCASTER ? Who is Stallone ? or this Arnold who ? ?? By the way I am 49 years old and know the real stars. Dont ask foolish questions again !!
I love jonny depp !
This poll wouldn't bother me if it had said "of the 1980s and 90s"; but, no, it claims to list the greatest action stars "of all time," which is outrageous.
Have you people never heard of, say, Errol Flynn, Burt Lancaster, or Douglas Fairbanks?
Were the choices on this poll made up by a retard?
greatest of all time.. you must be kidding, where are BOGART, BARRYMORE and the like??? These other guys arn't in the same league with them
I would have to agree with your readers when you ask of all times. Besides those us older folks know there is also Harrison Ford who did Raiders, Or William Shatner for Star Trek. Wouldn't you cosider those as action stars too.
Fair enough. Maybe "of all time" was a poor choice of words. But "retard" Skip? Really?
Where is "None of the above"?
My vote is for John Wayne.
Like many have said already... surely you jest! Errol Flynn, Humphrey Bogart, Burt Lancaster, John Wayne, and for later times, Harrison Ford, and I hesitate to add his name, but Bruce Willis has done a few that were memorable. My all time favorite... Errol Flynn. (and you should take Skip's comment to heart...) Get real.
Chuck, check again. Bruce Willis is already one of the choices.
For people of your seemingly great interest in films this list is a real embarrassment. If one just takes the best action figures of the most recent era of the genre Daniel Craig beats them all. And certainly Harrison Ford belongs on that list.
It is also true that one would be hard pressed to better the likes of Fairbanks and O'Flynn, despite the corniness which was just an aspect of the times.
But, despite my fondness for Bogie he is not an "action" hero. He was much too laid back and cerebral.
The question would make more sense if it was: "Who is the greatest CURRENT action star?"
In any event it's John Wayne.
Action hero of all time, and no Clint Eastwood. No Erroll Flynn. If going by the list given, I would have to say Bruce Lee. For the short time he was with us he was a phenominon world wide. His appeal crossed racial boundries.
I agree that several of the older stars are missing... so I am going to assume that the poll will pertain to the 70's, 80's, and 90's. No-one above can compare to Bruce Lee. Bruce Willis... 127 votes? Obviously, there are too many young people who haven't watched all the candidates (especially Bruce Lee).
Why not just leave the questions open and let fans write in their favorites? Nobody likes contrived results!
When I think of Bogart, I think of gritty dramas than action films. Harrison Ford is a big miss along with Sean Connery (there would be no Bond film legacy without him).
I voted for Bruce Lee because of his historically known commitment to the philosophy behind the application of Asian King Fu which, in my estimation, contributed greatly in elevating it above the level of 'street-fighting'for Western audiences; who in turn grew to appreciate the spiritual veneer that his mention of the Sholin Temple brought to it.
As far as great action stars you failed to include my choice. Errol Flynn
Dunt Pizmeoff how original...I thought we were all adults here? It's one thing to have an opinion, and it's ok to disagree, but to call names is a bit childish. The creator of the poll clearly made a mistake or poor choice in the title of this poll, but that doesn't give anyone the right to be offensive. It looks to me like Dunt got a case of internet muscles, and wouldn't have the b@lls to call anyone a retard to their face. Dunt is probably a 50 year old virgin still living in his parents basement.
I can understand people disagreeing with the choices on the poll, but if you disagree so much then why vote, or even comment? Out of 16 negative comments or voters 529 other people seemed to not have a problem with the poll, and if they did it wasn't a big deal to them, next time Dunt and Chuck should take note.
I enjoy the polls and creat-a-caption on this site, the other stuff is quite boring to me, some may disagree. The people who write this stuff seem to put alot of work into it, so have some respect. I voted for Steven Seagal because he is bad @ss.
Errol Flynn was all these choices wrapped into one, and much more . . . plus he had the romantic appeal no one on that list has. Errol was the greatest action hero of all time. John Wayne was the greatest cowboy of all time, Errol Flynn the greatest action star.
Most of the actors in the above list and those mentioned in many of the responses are actors who performed in action movies, but did not necessarily physically perform action sequences -- doubles were used. To me, the greatest action film star must be chosen from actors who performed their own action sequences: Remember, the question is asking for THE greatest action film star (one name) So, here's THE greatest action film star using my criterion: DOUGLAS FAIRBANKS, SR.
I just logged on and immediatley wanted to change the listing by adding a name and then saw the comment by Jerry Kreisberg. It turns out, he and I are on the same page. NO list of Action Stars is complete without Douglas!!! Should anyone not know who we are speaking of, then research film history. Even if you never ever heard the name before, next time you go to see a flick, look at the credits and chances are UNITED ARTISTS will pop up (particularly with DVDs). well, he was one of the initial Artists who founded that company back in 1919.
PS If you like the work of Errol Flynn, then Fairbanks is the original. The one Flynn is immitating!!!
The best actor of all time was Larry Parks in the Jolson story and Jolson Sings Again. He played the role to perfection.
Sorry Jon. Maybe I was a little over the top with the "retard" remark. It was a kneejerk reaction to what believe is a very shallow list made up by someone with no appreciation of the great stars of the past. I wouldn't include any of those choices in my top 50.
John Garfield, was the best!!!!
John Garfield was the best! John Wayne also!
I firmly believe and il have my finger cut that its BRUCE LEE. He was a legend and his skills surpass his screen presence. He is still is an icon and a legend
douglas fairbanks jr
Actually, none of the above as they all used stunt doubles. Jackie Chan, Burt Landcaster did most of all thier own stunts. Watch Lancaster in The Train. That is really him jumping on train.
I agree, how can u say the best ever? Now, if u ask whos the best modern-day, Id say Bruce W. Other decades have thier own. Ask instead whos best decade by decade.
The best "action" hero was Robert Donat in "The Thirty Nine Steps" and "The Count of Monte Cristo"
I don't think anyone could beat Tyrone Power
Um, John Wayne is the greatest action film star of all time and will never be surpassed.
How could you leave John Wayne off the tist. It is un American
