to bad their both gone, would have been fun if they had made grumpy old men III. voted for the odd couple, but grumpy old men is just as good. never saw buddy buddy.

  • Allen Hefner

The Odd Couple has this hands down. It is one of the wittiest comedies ever filmed. Lemmon is so tense and Matthau is so nonchalant thru the whole thing. My favorite line is when Matthau is serving food at the poker party. "We have brown sandwiches and green sandwiches." Love it! And it has a great supporting cast that fits right in. New York at it's finest.

"The Odd Couple" of course. It's Neil Simon's best play. Consequently, even though I am an actor who has worked in motion pictures for many years, I love appearing in "The Odd Couple" whenever I get the chance to work on stage. However, since I am physically perfect as Oscar, I have a habit of falling into an imitation of Walter Matthau that is hard for me to break. But nobody is willing to cast me as Felix. Drat!

  • Lewis Powel

"Under The Yum Yum Tree" is funnier than any of the ones listed

  • Martin Stumacher

The Odd Couple was my favorite among the group. Lemmon and Matthau were wonderful together. A classic example of comical team performances that you hardly see today.

  • Dave Manning

They rank with Abbott & Costello, the XStooges and the Marx Brothers. Matthau's morose face and Lemmon's obsessiveness as Flix were unsurpassed in film comedy.

  • Ben Costello

I love these two so much that I wrote a book called JACK & WALTER: THE FILMS OF LEMMON & MATTHAU. I truly enjoyed all of their outings with THE ODD COUPLE and GRUMPIER OLD MEN among my favorites!

  • Jay

The odd couple is my favorite but I love them all.

  • Tommy

This was a tough one! I almost had to flip a coin to decide between The Odd Couple and Grumpy Old Men.

  • David Kahoun

Matthau wasn't in Under the Yum Yum Tree.

  • J.W.Matthews

Many people feel that the Odd Couple was the best but I'm a movie critic and I have over Two Thousand movies in my collect including all of the Mathau/Lemmon movies. In my view the Fortune Cookie was very good as well but the Front Page was their best work together because they had a great supporting cast as well!

  • Mike Oldfield

I am in complete agreement. The Odd Couple was the best paring of these two great actors who could play comedy or drama and be brilliant in both. My favourite scene is the one where Felix is trying to clear his sinuses in the restaurant by making hideous animal noises. Buddy Buddy and Odd Couple II could have been great films except for the totally unnecessary swearing which never adds anything worthwhile to a film.

  • Rita

They were both great in Grumpy Old Men and Grumpier Old Men, but actually Burgess Meredith stole the show!

  • bill robinson

The only genuinely funny part of Grumpy Old Men, the only part that was truly LOL, was the dialogue under the end credits. I'd almost buy the movie for that.

  • Richard Finn

The "Odd Couple" without a doubt. Scene where Felix is going to work and Oscar is still in bed. Felix is letting him know that he is leaving and is giving Oscar some instruction. Oscar ends up bemoaning Felix's intrusion into his life saying, "Your damn notes, 'I left you a sandwich in the fridge,' FU; 'Turn the oven on at 5 PM,' FU; 'Leave the meat out to thaw,' FU; It took me 2 weeks before I understood what FU meant!" Not the exact wording, but great!

  • xDJ@V.YouBraveWorld.Tube

Is this too much to ask?? Yes. It's hard for me to watch Walter Matthau. Jack Lemmon goes a long way.

  • lucille nicholls

    B. Meredith is my favourite , dirty old man. He was hilarious in both of these movies. I miss Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau . Very good actors.

  • Jackie

try watching Hopscotch it will amuse.

  • DeMeio

Had to give my vote to THE FORTUNE COOKIE. I was one of those hundreds of "extras" wearing a top coat and hat sitting in the stands on a steaming summer day to make it look like it was during football season.

  • Steven

Two great actors,I went for Grumpy Old Men just the cast around them.Jack Lemmon in Avanti is worth a look.Matthau in a movie with Carol Burnett was also good but have forgotten its name.

  • Den

Both great actors and personalities.Grumpy Old Men always my favourite.
Second Jackie's suggestion, HOPSCOTCH with Walter M is worth watching and have just purchased it.

  • Roger Phillips

I did not find the first "Odd Couple" even funny but found the second "Odd Couple" funny (but I do not find Neil Simon's stuff funny). I really love Jack Lemmon and Walther Matthau together. Both of the "Old Men" movies are hilarious and many people can identify with them. By the way, the three houses from both movies are in St. Paul on the same street instead of in Wabasha. I took photos of them. Most of us will be like John and Max when we get old.

  • David Kahoun

@Steven. Do you mean Pete and Tillie?

  • Rob Smith

The Odd Couple is great but my vote is for The Fortune Cookie, very underrated.

  • BadGnx2

I agree with Rob Smith. I think "The Fortune Cookie" is the best pairing of these two very talented actors. Its probably Wilder's last truly great film of his career. And one in which the full Billy Wilder ascerbic, cynical wit was in full bloom. The racial undertones made the film even more biting.
Matthau even got an Oscar for his work. Lemmon was right up there too. It was probably the best mixture of COMEDY AND DRAMA from Matthau and Lemmon.

"The Odd Couple" was without a doubt the very best COMEDY outting of Lemmon and Matthau. The acting was so solid it set a really high bar for the subsequent TV show to reach for, although it never attained.

  • REDM

The Odd Couple, Grumpy Old Men, Grumpier Old Men were the best. I enjoy these movies from beginning to end. Comedy does get any better. I have two of the movies on DVD. I watch them over and over.

  • anton topole
