  1. Kevin says:

Sadly, I've only seen 3 of these (Fast Times, Superbad and Election). Tough call, but I had to go with Election.

  2. Ron says:

The Blackboard Jungle was a breakthrough movie with real characters, real script and real incidents/problems. I liked the part where Glenn Ford is trying to teach class as the shop machinery is running as well as the "bigot" trap sprung on him by the bad guys.

Lean on Me was very good at showing the problems and possible solutions to our educational system today. Freeman was very good playing a principal under constant attack from the very forces he's trying to defeat to the school.

  3. John says:

The reason Blackboard Jungle is my favorite movie is that I went to a High School in New York City, Manhattan to be precise. And many of the incidents in the movie were similar to my own experience's. The only flaw I found in the movie was that the machine shop was on a upper floor. Our machine shop was in the basement. A machine shop would never be placed in an upper floor due to the weight and vibration.

  4. kelly says:

    Election was absolutely delicious.

  5. Matthew says:

By farit must be;I can't believe it was missed, Faculty.

  6. Jerry Oddo says:

American Grafitti, you overlooked it on your nominee list. Great cast, soundtrack, story, director(George Lucas).Come on, if you're going to run a site like this, get with it!

  7. max fraley says:

GREASE gets my nod. It took my mind off of STAR WARS for a few days way back in the summer of 78 when my two sons and I had repeated viewings after our initial catch in 1977 at Grauman's Chinese.

  8. roy levering says:

"To Sir, With Love" is missing from the list

  9. Jim Serian says:

None of these hold a candle to "Ferris Bueller's Day off." I didn't even vote.

  10. Mick says:

    No "REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE?????"

  11. earthlover says:

    What about Clueless?

  12. Jim says:

Got to agree with Mick. "Rebel Without A Cause". Don't you people knew the real clasics?

  13. Ch says:

GREASE is the word...uh, the movie, that is missing from your list.

  14. Polly says:

I didn't like any of them. How about Grease or Peggy Sue Got Married.
Guess in your opinion, it can't be good unless there is a bunch of cussing.

  15. Bandyman says:

what about the classic's To Sir with love or Over the edge both great films that should be on this list

  16. Stan says:

American Graffiti was not on the list because the principle characters are all graduated. At first I agreed but I think this poll is more about the characters being in school and what was happening at the time.

Be that as it may, Grease should have been on the list for sure.

  17. version says:

American graffiti. Goos catch. How about Heathers?
    Or rebel without a cause

    ?

  18. Bad Boy says:

Rebel Without a Cause is arguably the best film made about trying to "fit in" at a highschool, especially if you're the new kid.

  19. Pratha Scullion says:

There are NO Christian based movies here -- so I would not vote for any of them. However, I will mention To Sir With Love -- at least that movie taught respect.

  20. uncle gibby says:

1980s Fast Times at Ridgemont High
    1990s Clueless
    2000s Mean Girls

All 3 were cleverly written with incredible young casts. If you didn't laugh your tail off at these, you have no pulse. If I had to
pick one from this list, it would be "Mean Girls" but Amy Heckerling got it right as well. "You go, Glenn Coco"!!!

  21. Paul Emery says:

    Dazed and Confused.

  22. Sébastien Bertrand says:

    Let's not forget about Heathers!

Clueless is a good choice too!

  23. Illiana says:

Where is "Grease"????????? The best ever!

  24. Ramone says:

How about Rock & Roll High School? You can't beat blowing up the school at the end of the movie!

  25. Clark says:

my favorate high school movie isnt even in the list?= Dead Poets Society , why isnt it on the list? can't top that one , thats my favorate & they didnt even put it there why????

  26. Sam Fletcher says:

The others are right--Rebel Without A Cause should have been included, although I still would have voted for Blackboard Jungle as the best of the genre. I always link that movie with the birth of rock 'n' roll. When Bill Haley and the Comets break into "Rock Around the Clock" as they were running the opening credits, all of us teens were up in the aisles dancing!

Another movie, Because They're Young, was really toned down and only hinted at some of the issues that made the book a real hit--teenage pregnancies, improper teacher-student relations, porno, drag racing, fights, all the fun stuff from our teen years!

Another contender--"The Lords of Flatbush" Those boys were from a really tough school.

  27. joe de says:

American Grafitti overlooked but a real contender.

  28. Grace says:

I think American Grafitti is the best! I also loved Stand and Deliver!

  29. Connie Smith says:

    Yes, Rebel Without a Cause!!!!!!!!

  30. em says:

I pick The Trouble with Angels. Rosalind Russel and Hayley Mills are wonderful, the character growth is subtle and realistic, and the movie is hilarious. And it has Jim Hutton, Mary Wickes, and Gypsy Rose Lee, too!

  31. em says:

    Oops, Rosalind RUSSELL.

  32. JAMES BRENNAN says:

REBEL W/O CAUSE doesn't qualify for this poll? Or is it a class by itself?

  33. Michael Hafner says:

Mischief should have been nominated it would have won hands down, with a knockout soundtrack(better than Grafitti), and a great cast, Doug McKeon, Kelly Preston, Chris Nash, and Catherine Mary Stewart, plus a script that every highschool kid can relate to, This flick is tops.

  34. Jon DeCles says:

Rebel Without a Cause is definitely a belonger: but everybody missed the film that most realistically portrayed teens in the 50s, sad to say. The Blob.

  35. Sharon K. says:

how about Stand and Deliver with Lou Diamond Phillips? & the movie with Michelle Pfeiffer as a teacher?

  36. mike says:

How come Heathers or Dazed and Confused is not listed.

  37. I get the rationalization for why "American Graffiti" was left off, though I don't exactly buy it (there's a high school sock hop in the movie for cryin' out loud!), and two of the five main characters are still in h.s.. Nevertheless, "Dazed And Confused" would have been my pick, don't know why it's not here. I did, however, choose "Superbad". H.S. movies in a poll like this should be the fun ones (at least that's my view), after all, don't we all look back on those years with the proverbial rose-tinted glasses? If not, then put "Elephant" on the list; probably the most realistic h.s. film I can think of.

  38. DeMeio says:

Of those on your list "Blackboard Jungle" got my vote, but I would have gone with "To Sir..." or "Elephant" had they been listed. And where was "Napoleon Dynamite"? How about "The Chocolate War" or "The Boys Of St. Vincent" (often overlooked but with a far, far more horrible villain than Hannibal Lector).

  39. Maureen Argon says:

One of the best "High School" movies, has to be "Dazed and Confused". It was the most realistic movie for my generation, the 1970's. It should have been on the list.

  40. Maureen Argon says:

One of the best "High School" movies, has to be "Dazed and Confused". It was the most realistic movie for my generation, the 1970's. It should have been on the list.

  41. ROLLAND T. says:

Besides the ones that were missed on the list. One I did'nt see listed was Valley Girl. It was a break through for Nick Cage. Even though he was a fry cook in fast times.

  42. Mary says:

My favorite isn't even on the list...I'll go with the original "Grease",and somebody else mentioned another fav of mine"To Sir,with love".

  43. How about Carrie? That was a good high school movie. Dangerous Minds was cool too. And, since the list was so limited, I picked "Lean on Me" but when I saw the question, before I saw the list, I thought of "To Sir with Love" first.

  44. Pete says:

TAPS, filmed at Vally Forge Milliary Academy. Starring George C Scott,Tom Cruise,Sean Penn and Tim Hutton.

  45. DIRK says:

I loved the Detention metaphor in Breakfast Club -- the teacher was detained on a Saturday as much as the kids!
