  1. Mine is more the scenes:

The amazing over the top performance by William Shatner in TWILIGHT ZONE: THE MOVIE

    The plane crash in FEARLESS.

    MEMPHIS BELLE

    A GUY NAMED JOE

    are a couple more.

  2. And yes, Memhpis Belle is already listed, but it is a personal fave as well.

  3. Stacia says:

Adrian, I think you might mean John Lithgow. Shatner was in the original TV version of that TZ episode, though.

  4. walt medlock says:

You left off the very best airplane
    movie "Air Force One"
    OLE WALT

  5. Darrell says:

I wonder if most people that voted did not see United 93. If not, if you can stomach it, watch it.

  6. Sandy Singer says:

AIRPORT, the first of the air-disaster flicks is my favorite...besides, I was actually in the film.

  7. Bare says:

None of these movies are anywhere near the "best". Most of the really good movies came out of the '30s and '40s, with a few later exceptions that are not even on this list, like "The Great Waldo Pepper", "Those Magnificent Men and Their Flying Machines", and "The Blue Max". For the older stuff, "There's "Air Force", "Dawn Patrol", "Test Pilot", and "Devil Dogs of the Air", to name a few, that are much better than these modern things on the list. I did pick "Airplane" from the list.

  8. Stephen Farris says:

Air Force One was a better selection than some mentioned, but I agree with Bare, the oldies were really the best [no special EFEX].

  9. Jill says:

I agree with Bare as well, that the best aiplane movies were made long before special effects were the norm. The list does not include such greats as: 12 O'clock High with Gregory Peck, Wings of Eagles and Flying Leathernecks with John Wayne, and also The Flight of the Phoenix with James Stewart, just to name a few.

  10. rufnek says:

For me, The High and the Mighty will always be the best (and essentially first of its kind) airplane disaster film, but three other great Airplane movies are No Highway in the Sky, The Crowded Sky (about an in-air aircraft colision with great pre-crash character development and a story that explains how a combination of small problems and mistakes can lead to a disaster), and Fate is the Hunter, based on a book written by a real pilot who happens to be a great pilot, that follows very realisticly the investigation of a fatal air crash.

  11. rick says:

You left out Air Force 1

  12. rick says:

And what about "God is my Co-Pilot", "Bridges at Toko-Ri"

  13. lgaide says:

How could you leave off THE SPIRIT OF SAINT LOUIS, with Jimmy Stewart?

  14. Beverly Frazier says:

I think you have had flight of the Phoenix on your list.

  15. uncle gibby says:

Of your list, I chose "Memphis Belle" but my personal favorite was Wes Craven's "Red Eye". It related to the WHOLE airline experience. It had humor, suspense and took the viewer for a wild ride. Cillian Murphy was absolutely "creepy" in his role and
Rachel McAdams surprised many (not me!!!) in a role that many thought she could not handle. Wes handled the suspense without his usual "in your face" violence. This movie is well worth seeing.

  16. Andy Kirkland says:

One of my favorites was "Fate is the hunter" starring Glenn Ford.

  17. David Ecklein says:

"Spitfire" (1942) is far and away my favorite of airplane-based films. Maybe this classic didn't make the list because it was British. This was Leslie Howard's last, and possibly best, screen appearance, before he himself was killed in a WW2 plane.

  18. lucas w says:

ok on the list i think airport eas a great movie, basically the one that started it all from the seventies,i also love ''air port 77'' where the 747 crashes into the ocean, this movie has a stella cast also!!! another great one was the delta force with lee marvin, watch it if you have not seen it!!!!

  19. John Bee says:

The 1943 movie "Air Force" has a lot to offer as one of the best ever movies inside a plane. We often look to more recent movies but there were many movies going back to the World War II era that younger viewers ought to take time to view

  20. ron citron says:

I was reading "the high & the mighty" while flying over crater lake!

  21. John George says:

My personal choice and favorite is "The High and the Mighty" but I also agree with many of the suggestions made by other readers as well. I don't think (as is suggested by rufnek)that TH&TM can/should be classified as a "disaster" film - if it were, the plane would have crashed. The beauty of the film is in its presenting the effect the possibibilty of imminent death has on the passengers and crew who are "trapped" on the plane. Although some of the characters might be considered stereotypes, most are not, and are presented as being at critical points in each of their lives. The film is really a psychological study of these people, and the only "disaster" is what each of them chooses to do or not do as a result of their having been on the flight.

  22. Version says:

I know its no movie - but Sky King - had me dreaming about flying to work and everywhere when I was a kid.

  23. Jeff C says:

All the movies mentioned were pretty good but just to throw a few more out there for consideration how about "Dive Bomber" or "Only Angels Have Wings" or maybe "Air Mail" from 1932 which was written by Frank "Spig" Wead, who was played by John Wayne in the biopic mentioned earlier "The Wings Of Eagles".
Although not strictly set on a plane, they all have plenty of action in the air.

  24. Ann Patricia Fifield says:

I voted for Executive Decision as it was an all round thriller, but my real favourites are Airport and The High and the Mighty also AirForce One was terrific.

  25. ONG..Airplane was so totally funny! I had to vote for that!

  26. OMG even...Airplane

  27. Joker says:

I liked Turbulence personally. Ray Liotta is best when he is at his most psycho...
