You really scraped the bottom of the barrel for some of those choices. Paul Newman in the Verdict was by far the best; my only complaint was not seeing the verdict read.

  • TERRY

I AGREE WITH THE POLL, EXCEPT I WOULD PUT “ANATOMY OF A MURDER” IN THE TOP FIVE BECAUSE THEY WERE DEALING WITH SEXUAL ASSAULT AND IT WAS CONTROVERSIAL AT TIME BECAUSE THE SUBJECT HAD NEVER BEEN DEALT WITH ON T.V. AND, THE QUESTIONS JAMES STEWART’S CHARACTER ASKED WERE SELDOM ALLOWED IN A REAL RAPE TRIAL, BUT ARE NOW STANDARD PROCEDURES.
SO THERE WERE ELEMENTS OF IT THAT WERE GROUNDBREAKING!

    THANK YOU–TERRY

  • Richard Green

I’ve always loved Jack Lemmon in “How to Murder Your Wife.” He’s so persuasive that he ultimately gets ALL the jurors (all men) to admit there is a part in all of them that would like to murder their wives. It’s dark, yes, but very funny.

  • Gene in L.A.

Some of those choices don’t just have courtroom scenes; they’re basically courtroom movies. For single scenes within a dramatic movie, there’s nothing to compare with To Kill A Mockingbird.

  • Sparky

“Inherit The Wind”, as valid today as it ever was in the time which it (Scopes Monkey Trial) actually happened.

  • Grumpy old Man

While not actually in the courtroom. One of the best court-based movies of all time. 12 Angry Men.

  • Sam Fletcher

I once read that Anatomy of a Murder is the only Hollywood movie actually shown in law school classes as a teaching aid for defense attorneys. George C. Scott as the prosecutor certainly demonstrates in the film the correctness of the old lawyers’ adage, “Never ask a question to which you don’t already know the answer.” In trying to discredit a witness as a jealous lover, he enhances her creditibility when she replies that her relationship with the dead man was that of father and daughter. It’s not only the most realistic trial film but the most entertaining.

Jody Foster does double duty here… with cortroom scene from Contact and her famous oscarworthy rape movie.

What was the name of that movie where Samuel L. Jackson played the father of a little girl who was gang raped? I felt his rage in that one!

  • Marty Fox

Definitely “Judgment at Nuremberg” both by cast and content!

  • ronzoni

What? Kramer vs Kramer was left out? Meryl Streep earned her Academy Award in that custody hearing scene. Also among the missing are Adam’s Rib, Young Mr. Lincoln, and The Awful Truth. More thought needs to go into these polls. Bah!

  • Jefferson Thomas

Grumpy Old Man is right: “12 Angry Men” should have at least made this list.

  • Rick Hirsch

The court room scences in “To Kill A Mockingbrd” were academy award winning. I suppose that is why Gregory Peck won the oscar.

I can’t remember the name but john cusak & his girlfriend try to manipulate the jury. Gene Hackman & Duston Haufmann were the lawyers.
