With the release of the new Marvel Studios movie <em>The Fantastic Four: First Steps<\/em> just a few weeks away, the actor who brought his own brand of refined menace to the role of Dr. Doom in Fox&#8217;s 2000s FF films, Australian-born <a href=\"https:\/\/www.moviesunlimited.com\/search?cr=Julian%20McMahon%7C269951&amp;mod=AP&amp;_gl=1*zuou0n*_up*MQ..&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQjwrMKmBhCJARIsAHuEAPSuSiMeVGR3GjhyTUkl1IBr1lZn78DqL7AjR08r3rqvZ8UjLD8uUXsaAvLHEALw_wcB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Julian McMahon<\/a>, died last week at 56.<\/p>\n<p>A native of Sydney, Julian was born in 1968. His father, William McMahon, was a leading Liberal politician who served as the country&#8217;s Prime Minister in 1971-72. After studying law and economics in college, the younger McMahon switched career tracks and left to work as a model in Europe. Returning Down Under after his father&#8217;s death in 1988, Julian did commercial work and soon landed roles on the popular Aussie soap operas <em>The Power, The Passion<\/em> and <em>Home and Away<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-58231\" src=\"http:\/\/www.moviefanfare.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/MFF-CHARMED.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"380\" srcset=\"https:\/\/onecinephile.wpenginepowered.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/MFF-CHARMED.jpeg 650w, https:\/\/onecinephile.wpenginepowered.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/MFF-CHARMED-300x175.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>His motion picture debut came in the 1992 Australian-U.S. beach comedy <em>Exchange Lifeguards<\/em>, released in America as <em>Wet and Wild Summer!. <\/em>McMahon came stateside the following year and won a recurring role on the NBC soaper <em>Another World<\/em>. He later played Detective John Grant on the 1996-2000 crime drama <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.moviesunlimited.com\/profiler-the-complete-series\/9337369018898?_gl=1%2A1pnadsb%2A_up%2AMQ..&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQjwrMKmBhCJARIsAHuEAPSuSiMeVGR3GjhyTUkl1IBr1lZn78DqL7AjR08r3rqvZ8UjLD8uUXsaAvLHEALw_wcB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Profiler<\/a>. <\/em>Julian was both evil and romantic as the half-demon Cole Turner, sent to destroy the Halliwell sisters only to fall in love with Phoebe (Alyssa Milano), in Seasons Three to Five of the supernatural series<a href=\"https:\/\/www.moviesunlimited.com\/search?cr=Charmed%7C532450&amp;mod=AP&amp;_gl=1*d2za9y*_up*MQ..&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQjwrMKmBhCJARIsAHuEAPSuSiMeVGR3GjhyTUkl1IBr1lZn78DqL7AjR08r3rqvZ8UjLD8uUXsaAvLHEALw_wcB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><em> Charmed<\/em><\/a>. During this time he also had supporting turns in such indie films as 2000&#8217;s <em>Chasing Sleep<\/em> and 2004&#8217;s <em>Meet Market<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-58232\" src=\"http:\/\/www.moviefanfare.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/MFF-FANTASTIC-FOUR-2005.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"515\" height=\"247\" srcset=\"https:\/\/onecinephile.wpenginepowered.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/MFF-FANTASTIC-FOUR-2005.jpg 515w, https:\/\/onecinephile.wpenginepowered.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/MFF-FANTASTIC-FOUR-2005-300x144.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 515px) 100vw, 515px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Leaving <em>Charmed<\/em> in 2003, McMahon hit the ground running when Ryan Murphy cast him as womanizing plastic surgeon Dr. Christian Troy in FX&#8217;s acclaimed drama <a href=\"https:\/\/www.moviesunlimited.com\/niptuck-the-complete-series\/883929150458?_gl=1*d2za9y*_up*MQ..&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQjwrMKmBhCJARIsAHuEAPSuSiMeVGR3GjhyTUkl1IBr1lZn78DqL7AjR08r3rqvZ8UjLD8uUXsaAvLHEALw_wcB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><em>Nip\/Tuck<\/em><\/a>. He got to play a very <em>different<\/em> kind of doctor when he was tapped to co-star in 2005&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.moviesunlimited.com\/fantastic-four\/024543519140?_gl=1*e4hmg*_up*MQ..&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQjwrMKmBhCJARIsAHuEAPSuSiMeVGR3GjhyTUkl1IBr1lZn78DqL7AjR08r3rqvZ8UjLD8uUXsaAvLHEALw_wcB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><em>Fantastic Four<\/em><\/a> as the superhero team&#8217;s masked archfoe Victor Von Doom, aka Dr. Doom.
