\/><\/a>Guest blogger Dave writes:<\/p>\n<p>This film is not what I expected&#8230;\u00a0 at all.\u00a0 From the title I expected Angels Over Broadway (1940)\u00a0to be a light, fun, maybe even a heartwarming type of film (why did I have visions of a <a title=\"Busby Berkley\" href=\"http:\/\/www.moviesunlimited.com\/musite\/findresults_title.asp?search=Busby+Berkley\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Busby Berkeley<\/a> musical?).\u00a0 In my opinion, it&#8217;s none of the above.\u00a0 Not even close.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a good film but I found it very\u00a0dark and kind of moody.\u00a0 Take the characters for example, there&#8217;s a con man who&#8217;s down-on-his-luck looking for his next sucker.\u00a0 Then there&#8217;s a chorus girl, down-on-her-luck, who&#8217;s willing to do anything to get in a show.\u00a0 There&#8217;s a drunken playwright whose show just closed because it was a flop.\u00a0 And last but not least, you have a meek embezzler, with a money-squandering wife,\u00a0who&#8217;s caught stealing $3,000 by his boss and threatened with jail unless he replaces the money by 6\u00a0the next morning.\u00a0 Oh and by the way, the embezzler is now suicidal.\u00a0 Director Ben Hecht packs a lot of drama into 78 minutes, so hold on tight because it is a roller coaster ride.\u00a0 The ending comes kind of abruptly and left me scratching my head, not knowing if I wanted more or that I was glad it was over.<\/p>\n<p>The film stars <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moviesunlimited.com\/musite\/findresults_actor.asp?search=douglas+fairbanks+jr&amp;r=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Douglas Fairbanks, Jr.<\/a> as Bill O&#8217;Brien the con man, and an enchanting <a title=\"Rita Hayworth \" href=\"http:\/\/www.moviesunlimited.com\/musite\/findresults_actor.asp?search=Rita+Hayworth+\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Rita Hayworth <\/a>as Nina Barona the chorus girl.\u00a0 But it&#8217;s Thomas Mitchell who steals the show as Gene Gibbons the playwright.\u00a0 By the way, I think the film is also known as &#8220;Before I Die,&#8221; which suits it much better &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><em>Dave just loves to watch old movies and just started writing about them in his blog.\u00a0 Stop by and visit, and leave some comments to let
