R.I.P. Spaghetti Western Icon Bud Spencer 1929 – 2016

Yesterday in Rome, Italian actor Bud Spencer died at the age of 82. Despite an impressive early career as a professional swimmer, Spencer became a surprise movie star when he began doing a series of fun-filled spaghetti western films with frequent on-screen cohort Terence Hill. (The pair first worked together in the 1967 classic God Forgives…I Don’t! and made over 20 films together). The larger-than-life personality worked steadily throughout his career doing a variety of roles that played off his lovably gruff persona. Although never a superstar by traditional Hollywood standards, Spencer leaves behind an extraordinary body of work that lovers of cult films, Westerns, and exploitation flicks will continue to discover and appreciate for decades to come.
